As video game plot-lines go, Far Cry 5’s cult leader occupation of an American town is pretty out there. Another game which shares this anything goes mantra for storytelling is Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, which presents an alternate history timeline in which the Nazis won World War II.

Now, while not an open-world game, Wolfenstein II is the new benchmark by which all first-person experiences should be measured. Gun-play is heavy but precise, and character animations when interacting with the world are exquisite.

If Far Cry 5 players enjoyed the first-person shooter-lead chaos which permeates the experience then they should get a whole lot out of Wolfenstein II.

The characters are Far Cry levels of dynamic, and the two share themes of a dangerous regime threatening American citizens, albeit on different scales.
