The Last Remnant Remastered
Square Enix has a ton of RPG properties under their belt, many of which are lesser known by a wider audience. One of those games is The Last Remnant, a unique JRPG that release on Xbox 360 in 2008 and then on PC in 2009.
Square Enix is giving the game a second lease on life with The Last Remnant Remastered, which recreates the title in Unreal Engine 4 and provides a host of changes, like a fast run option while in the field.
The Last Remnant was met with middling reviews when it originally released, mostly due to some repetitive gameplay and some serious technical issues. Still, the Last Remnant definitely did some interesting things, namely with its battle system.
Instead of having individual party members, you instead organize multiple characters into Unions which serve as combat units in battle. Unions can have different properties and strengths depending on the characters in them, and the system allows for some stunning massive-scale battles that you don’t typically find in a JRPG.
Hopefully, the technical upgrade can help smooth out the technical problems The Last Remnant originally had, and make it a JRPG even more worth playing.
