Yes, it might seem strange that this is one of the picks considering how different it is from every other Doom game in existence. Between the lack of speedy mobility and heavy metal soundtrack, this might come off as a weird choice, but it’s a solid survival horror.

It’s unavoidable to admit that Doom 3 doesn’t have much in common with any other game in the franchise, but that’s where it shines. Doom 3 is slow, methodical, and frightening. It’s not sprinting through hallway after hallway, mowing enemies down, it is jump scares and poorly lit nightmare bathrooms.

Doom 3 does horror so incredibly well and nails the right atmosphere of a spooky, empty Mars facility taken over by demons that don’t come at you by the busload, but wish to terrify you at the right time.
