Shin Megami Tensei V: How to Change Party Members

Developed by Atlus, Shin Megami Tensei V is the latest mainline entry in the popular turn-based JRPG series. Players take control of the Nahobino, a high school student who fuses with a demon and thus gains the power to control both angels and demons in battle. Your job is to recruit demons to your party and take Tokyo back from the demons who are trying to consume it. Here’s how to change party members in Shin Megami Tensei V.

Changing Party Members in Shin Megami Tensei V

You can only have four members in your party at all times, and this includes the Nahobino himself, who cannot be swapped out. This means that you can have three demons accompanying you in battle.

When you’re out of combat, press the X button to bring up the menu and choose the Party option. From here, you can select a demon from your stock and place it in your party. It’s as simple as that. You can also change party members when you’re in the middle of battle, but this comes with a few caveats.

First off, if you want to swap out a particular demon in battle, you can only do it on that demon’s turn or on the Nahobino’s turn. The Nahobino can change out any member of the party, but demons themselves can only swap themselves out with another demon in the stock.

On the Nahobino or demon’s turn, choose the Change option from the command menu, then choose the demon you want to swap in. Do note that this will take up your turn, which means you’ll have fewer attacking opportunities during that round.

If a demon gets KO’d during battle, that party slot will remain empty until you reach the Nahobino’s turn again, and you’ll have the opportunity to swap another demon in.
