Minecraft: How to Get Emeralds

minecraft, emeralds

You’ll need to locate, trade, and craft many different resources in Minecraft. Emeralds are a pretty rare resource that you’ll need to either trade with villages or use to power beacons across the game map. They’re pretty rare but there are a few reliable ways to get them. Here’s what you need to know about how to get emeralds.

Emeralds are used as a trading resource with villagers primarily, but they’re also useful for activating various beacons around the map.

Beacons have status effects when activated and fed a resource; you’ll know when you’ve activated them as they’ll shine light skyward. You can actually use gold ingot, iron ingot, diamond, or emeralds to produce an effect.

How to Get Emeralds in Minecraft

Mining

Emeralds can be obtained by combing emerald ore with any fuel, such as coal, charcoal, dried kelp, etc.

However, emerald ore is the rarest mineral in the game. So while of course, you can mine this ore from mountain biomes between levels 1-30, it’s not really worth your time and resources, honestly.

Trading

Your best bet to acquire them is by trading with villagers, exchanging for resources like coal. You may come across emerald boxes, which are essentially nine packed into a box shape. These can be deconstructed via the crafting menu.

Chests

Outside of that, you’ll come across them as loot in various chests –underwater ruin chests, village chests, village butcher chests, igloo chests, temple chests, buried treasure chests, etc.

Drops

And, of course, there are certain enemies that drop emeralds. These include Vindicators and Evokers; note that looting will increase the maximum drop by one per level.

Foxes also drop them upon death, or when you drop a food source (which will cause them to drop their emerald).

That should cover everything you need to know about how to get emeralds in Minecraft. For more useful tips and guides on the game, be sure to search Twinfinite. If you can’t find what you’re looking for then feel free to sound off in the comment section.
