3 Ways the Nintendo Switch Will Take the World by Storm

The Switch... will change the world!

Proper Remote Play

Remote Play is something that a few companies have been wrestling with for a while now. Whether it was Sony’s attempt with the Vita and PS4, or Nintendo’s own attempts with the Wii U’s gamepad. While both were good tries, neither of them truly delivered on the ability to bring your AAA home consoles with you on the go. The Wii U was too limited in its range and the Vita suffered from a lack of buttons and the need for an internet connection.

The Nintendo Switch looks set to have finally nailed it. With a controller that allows players all of the buttons and analog sticks needed to truly enjoy experiences like Skyrim or NBA on the go, and complete freedom in terms of where they choose to enjoy their games, players will finally be able to play their favorite home console games as they should be played wherever they want. The Switch definitely looks like it’s powerful enough to keep it all running smoothly and looking great too. From the reveal trailer, we didn’t see any significant drop in how the games looked or were running when moving from the home console to a portable experience. Only time will truly tell, though.

All of the Controller Solutions

Up until the Switch, a controller was a controller. None really had any hidden features or did anything special other than allow you to interact with your favorite games. But then the Switch came along and showed that a controller can actually be used in about five different ways. It can morph, it can be snapped in half and used for multiplayer when in its portable form, or each bit can sit in your hands so you can rest them leisurely at your side and game away. Oh, and then there’s the Pro Controller that’ll work with everything else, too.

It’s a novel way of overcoming the problems of its hybrid nature, as well as the way of playing a range of games while on the go. What’s more, the whole concept of splitting the controller and morphing it back together again all seems incredibly simple and easy to do. Nintendo has nailed the controller solution for every situation. Whether you’re on the go, at an eSports competition, or just sitting back at home, the Switch has you covered.

The Portable Multiplayer Options

Nintendo Switch

One of the star features of the Nintendo Switch reveal trailer was its showcasing of multiplayer. Now, multiplayer is nothing new to video games, but it was the circumstances that made it so special. The trailer showed two players enjoying a good game of Mario Kart on the portable screen of the Switch using a half of the controller, before we saw four players in a 2 v 2 NBA match across two Switches.

Being able to have two players play against one another on one portable console is an incredibly impressive feat. Especially when combined with such a perfect range of controller solutions. With Nintendo’s range of first party titles often providing some of the best multiplayer experiences around, being able to play with your friends whether they’ve got their own Switch or not is a clever means of playing into the strength of Nintendo’s software.
