5 Video Game Franchises Perfect for a PUBG-Like Battle Royale Mode

Test your might in these battle royale modes.

The Last Of Us

Recommended Videos

The Last Of Us would have an insane amount of potential for a great PUBG-inspired multiplayer mode. Pulling the looting and crafting mechanics from the base game and implementing them into a battle royale setting would open up so many possibilities for the developers at Naughty Dog. For once in a battle royale game, it would make sense why there would be weapons and other supplies randomly placed in abandoned houses. Perhaps the guns could be insanely rare, forcing players to scrounge up anything from two-by-fours to broken bottles as they attempt to survive. On top of that, the inclusion of infected (especially the Clickers) would force you to worry about a lot more than just the fellow humans you are competing against.

Borderlands

borderlands 2, xbox ultimate game sale, games, last gen, must play, cannot miss

Borderlands is a franchise that is in danger losing fans due to a lack of innovation between titles, taking inspiration from PUBG would be a great way to see that happen. With the crazy amount of gun combinations, no match in a battle royale styled game would ever be the same, with loot boxes containing anything from a normal pistol to a gun that shoots other guns, all with different stats and perks attached to them as well. The developers at Gearbox could also make it lore-friendly by having the players duke it out in Mad Moxxi’s Underdome, which was prominently featured in a DLC expansion for the first game in the series.

Far Cry

Far Cry is a series that thrives from it’s environments, which is an aspect that could be used to great lengths in a PUBG-inspired mode. With entries in the franchise being set from Africa to America, the amount of variety when it comes to maps would be massive. Another element that this franchise brings is the amount of wild animals players can discover. For example, you could be in an intense firefight with an enemy while out of nowhere, a tiger jumps at you from the trees. Not only would wild animals be an element that would diversify the mode, the variety of vehicles Far Cry is known for would also be a welcome addition for spicing up gameplay.

Halo

Halo 5: Guardians

A battle royale in space? Yes please. Halo has seen a lot of changes since 343 has taken the reins from Bungie, including a PUBG-inspired mode in a sci-fi setting isn’t a far fetched idea. Halo has it all: a variety of weapons, vehicles and locations that could be utilized to introduce a battle royale mode into the franchise. Just like with Borderlands, this inclusion could easily be made lore friendly, just have it all be a Spartan training simulation!

 Splinter Cell

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, PlayStation 2

Imagine a battle royale that depended on the use of stealth tactics over more conventional shooting and looting. The last entry in the Splinter Cell franchise, Blacklist, featured a robust multiplayer mode that encouraged players to stick to the shadows. Employing this same school of thought into a slower and more methodical take on a last-man-standing mode would be genre-defining. However, having 100 Sam Fishers running around would probably not suit the franchise at all, so keeping the player count low would probably be the best direction to take this idea if it was to ever be done. This would of course mean smaller and more detailed maps, setting the stage of what could potentially be the most high stakes game of “Spies” that the gaming world has ever seen.
