Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Prior to its release, some Call of Duty fans were worried about the dramatic changes that Black Ops 4 was making to the series. Gone was the traditional single player mode, being replaced by a Battle Royale mode that would attempt to grab some of the attention that PUBG and Fortnite were getting.

Blackout proved very popular, not only offering a great Battle Royale experience but also bringing more opportunities for co-op play to Call of Duty.

Of course, you could still play Zombies and the standard multiplayer modes with a few friends, either online or locally, but Blackout was the standout.

With either one partner or three squad mates, you can jump into the world that’s inspired by old Black Ops maps and fight for glory against up to 98 other players.

As anyone who’s played a battle royale game before will know, getting that first win is one of the best feelings in gaming. Blackout is one of the best examples because it’s the excellent Call of Duty gameplay you know mixed with the great, modern genre.

LEGO DC Super Villains

The LEGO games are always great for playing co-op. With such a lighthearted tone, thousands of bricks to smash, and a whole host of characters, they’re perfect for playing with friends and family.

The characters are even more of a standout in LEGO DC Super Villains due to the voice actors that play a part. The Joker is once again played by Mark Hamill, reprising his role from the Batman Arkham games, and it’s fun to play around with the more obscure villains that you might not even believe are real.

Otherwise, it’s the usual LEGO game affair. Run through the levels, collect and build, and switch between all the characters, and since many of the puzzles are built for multiple characters, it works well for co-op since you need to work together throughout to make it to the next stage.

NBA 2K Playgrounds 2

NBA Playgrounds 2

The single-player content was a bit repetitive and the whole game was overly influenced by the classic NBA 2K microtransactions, but Playgrounds 2 is a great game for any basketball fan looking for some co-op fun.

The new locations are wonderfully vibrant and detailed, the power-ups are fun, and the gameplay is easy to get to grips with.

What also makes it easy for newcomers is that there are only two ballers on each team. If you’re playing in co-op, you don’t need to worry about AI players and just coordinate your play with your friend.

Nail the perfect alley-oop with your partner and you’ll be high fiving in no time. The defending isn’t particularly easy, but all of the fun comes from spectacular dunks, and that’s even better with a friend. Keep in mind that co-op is online only, though.

Red Dead Online

Red Dead Online

Red Dead Redemption 2 is primarily a single player experience. It’s all about roaming the wild west, slowing getting to know the characters and learn the way of the lands. Exploration and experimentation are primary as you follow the emotional story.

However, a few weeks after the game launched, Red Dead Online went into beta, allowing you to ride around the plains with other players.

You are able to form a posse and head out to complete missions, make some money, race each other on horses, or even interrupt an enemy posse’s mission. It’s all about making money and getting XP so that you can get better stats and buy new weapons.

Also, since Red Dead Online is still in beta, more and more is going to come to the game over the next few months and Rockstar will hopefully alter how expensive the in-game currency is.

Be warned, however, the game has its fair share of griefers, so you might not be able to do everything want in a quick and calm fashion.
