5 Platinum Trophies that are Just Plain Unfair

This Monday was the 10-year anniversary of trophies on the PlayStation platform. Many platinum trophies provide the player with a great sense of pride and accomplishment, and it can be fun to complete all the challenges the developer has for you. Some platinum trophies are easier than others, some games have better trophy lists than others, but some games have trophy requirements that are completely insane. Here are five of the most ridiculous platinum trophies of all time.

To start things off is Fortnite, and it’s not because it’s the most popular game in the world right now. However, Fortnite does belong on this list. While most people are busy eating their chicken dinners (wait, wrong game) while playing the battle royale game mode, the original Save the World mode comes with a platinum trophy. Many of the trophies don’t appear daunting at first glance, but once you start scrolling down, it becomes apparent that there will be a serious grind. There are four specific trophies will require an ungodly amount of time: Talent Builder, Guardian Angel, World Explorer, and Plays Well With Others. Talent Builder? Build 500,000 structures; the average Save the World mission only has you building somewhere between 100 to 150 structures. Guardian Angel? Rescue 10,000 survivors; the highest number of survivors in Rescue the Survivor missions is 15. World Explorer? 1,500 zones explored; there are only two in each mission. Play Well With Others? Play 1,000 co-op missions with strangers.

Time to do some basic math, each mission has an average time of 20 minutes, give or take. The 1,000 co-op missions already add up to 20,000 minutes, which is over 333 hours. That’s not all. The majority of the co-op missions are random, which means the odds of playing Rescue the Survivor missions are rare. Rescuing 10,000 survivors in Rescue the Survivor missions will require approximately 666 missions. Each mission is 20 minutes long, and that adds up to 222 hours. There might be some overlap between Rescue the Survivors missions and Play With Others missions, but this game will still demand upwards of 500 hours for the platinum trophy.

Friday the 13th: The Game

Friday the 13th The Game

If you thought Fortnite was too long of a game to platinum, there’s Friday the 13th: The Game. Friday the 13th has plenty of time-consuming trophies, but one specific trophy puts everything into perspective. Titled The Final Chapter, the description reads, “play 1,000 multiplayer matches as Jason.”

Friday the 13th: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer game where there are seven camp counselors and one Jason. It is not possible to queue up as only Jason, which means that you have a 1/8 chance of being Jason, which means you’ll only play Jason 12.5% of the time. The average match last between 15 to 20 minutes, if you do the math using the low estimate, it will take about 2,000 hours to get the platinum trophy for Friday the 13th: The Game. Do you know how many times you could watch Mean Girls in that time? A lot!

Mortal Kombat (2011)

After the craziness of the previous three games on PS4, you could grab your PS3 and play Mortal Kombat (2011). Similar to the previous two entries on this list, this platinum trophy is time-consuming. There are plenty of difficult trophies to earn in Mortal Kombat, but one in particular will test your patience and dedication, My Kung Fu is Stronger. This trophy requires you to play as each character in the base game (28 characters) for at least 24 hours each. Quick math puts this platinum trophy at a minimum of 672 hours.

The only good thing about the My Kung Fu is Stronger trophy is that it makes you proficient with all the fighters, but that is still a ridiculous amount of time to spend on all 28 characters. Other difficult trophies for Mortal Kombat include Ladder Master and Outstanding. Ladder Master requires you to beat Arcade Ladder on max difficulty without using a continue. Lose one match? Got to start all over. Luckily, there are ways to make this easier by cheesing the settings, and they are outlined here. Outstanding tasks you with winning 10 straight ranked online matches in a row. This trophy is only for the best of the best, and getting this platinum trophy is a true achievement for those who are good enough.

NBA 2K16

nba 2k16, platinum trophies, trophy, difficult, hard

The next game on the list isn’t particularly time-consuming, but is extremely difficult. NBA 2K16 has an awful reputation among trophy hunters. The platinum trophy was completely unattainable for a long time, and two specific trophies made it impossible; the How Much You Got trophy was glitched, and the Fortune Hunter trophy was not attainable at launch. For the Fortune Hunter trophy, you have to acquire all runes for the MYTEAM. To acquire the runes, it will require a large amount of MT (in-game currency). The reason this trophy was unattainable at launch was that it requires historic players. Historic players were periodically released by 2K, so many players had to wait to get the platinum trophy. This grind will take upwards of 100+ hours to complete. There is a nifty website that helps out with the progress and keeps track of everything.

Even if the nonsense with the two trophies mentioned above is ignored, the reason this game is on this list is because of the Perfection trophy. What does this trophy require? It requires you to win all 10 games in Greatest of all Time. The Greatest of all Time is an online mode where you have to win at least eight out of 10 games to move up in ranking. Once you reach the top division, you have to go 10 for 10 in games played. Lose just one match? Too bad, you have to start over and begin the process again.

These 10 games can’t be boosted either, so even if you have friends available to play, they can’t help. The Perfection trophy is aimed toward the best of the best, which means the only people that have this trophy and possibly the platinum are players who love this game so much that it might be one of the few games that they play. The expertise and knowledge required for this platinum trophy are insane.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

NetherRealm studios must hate trophy hunters because the last game on this list is Injustice: Gods Among Us. Just a few years after the ridiculousness of Mortal Kombat’s trophy list, NetherRealm does it again. Injustice: Gods Among Us is similar to Mortal Kombat, only this time around you play as iconic DC characters like Deathstroke, Green Arrow, and The Flash. There are a few trophies that are the bane of trophy hunters’ existence and those are The Hero We Deserve, World’s Finest, and Ultimate Battler.

The Hero We Deserve trophy isn’t challenging, but just like watching all the bad DCEU films, the process of getting it does get quite dull. This trophy requires you to reach level 100. Reaching level 100 will take dozens of hours of grinding, and even boosting with a friend will require a serious time sink. The total amount of XP needed for this trophy? 50,796,671 XP.

World’s Finest rivals NBA 2K16’s Perfection trophy in difficulty, but luckily there are no online players to deal with. This trophy asks you to complete all S.T.A.R. Lab Missions with three Stars. How many missions? 240. There are a total of 240 missions, which means that there are a total of 720 stars to earn. Some are easier than others, but some are brutal. Winning a match without jumping, winning a match without moving backward, winning a match without taking a hit are just some of the missions you’ll need to complete.

The Ultimate Battler trophy might be even tougher, where you have to win 20 different battles with specific conditions placed on you. Here are a few: your opponent’s health will be restored to full every 30 seconds, you must defeat each of your opponents in under 30 seconds, and defeat the entire cast of Injustice with a single Health Meter.

There you have it, five of the most ridiculous platinum trophies of all time. Attempting to earn these platinum trophies can make anyone go insane, akin to looking at an eldritch abomination. It’s also possible to get a stomach ulcer or an aneurysm, so going after these platinum trophies is ill-advised. Still, if you have even one of these platinum trophies, it shows that you have immense skill, dedication, and willpower.
