The Division has a lot going for it. A beautifully crafted winter NYC, lots of customization, enjoyable third-person shooting, and an interesting take on PvP thanks to the Dark Zone. But, let’s be honest. There are things that we wish we could see and do as we move about the world. Things that modders could make happen without even batting an eyelash.
While modding is unavailable for the online-0nly experience that is The Division, that doesn’t stop us from dreaming.Â
Motor Bikes
If you take a look at the map of The Division, you can see just how big the world truly is. Streets, alleyways, tunnels, subway systems, buildings – there’s a lot to explore. And while there is a form of fast transportation, those who want to actually see the world are stuck relying on their own two feet. The world is pretty to look at yes, but walking around does grow tiresome.
Motor Bikes would be an amazing addition to the world. They’re small enough to make their way through the deserted vehicles and narrow passageways. Being able to shoot while driving, or have a friend jump on back and be able to attack would be swell as well.
The environment is perfect for the addition. If only modders were able to work their magic.Â
Super Powers
There’s a reason why so many superhero stories take place in and around NYC. The city is perfectly structured for it. Tall buildings, large parks, plenty of tunnels and hidden passageways. Running around, through, and over NYC is simply a fun thing to do. So why not throw some super powers into The Division?
While it may make the missions completely laughable, a mod of this nature would be great for when you just want to have some fun. Exploring the city in full, including the tops of buildings, is something that never gets old in games. Just take a look at all the crazy antics players in GTA V get up to, and you’ll see why superpowers in The Division are a perfect fit.Â
Agent Creation
It’s no secret, the character creation at the start of The Division is less than favorable, to put it nicely. Many players, myself included, have opted for cool hats and shades to mask the very limited facial options available. What now exists is a world full of cloned Agents trying to free NYC while also killing their doppelgangers in the Dark Zone.
A mod that revamps character creation and lets players actually, you know, create a character would be wonderful. No more having to settle. Now you can make someone ugly because you really want to, not because you have to.Â
Actual PvP Modes
Ubisoft Massive took a decidedly different approach to PvP when the studio created The Division. The Dark Zone is an anything goes no-man’s-land that creates palpable tension for players as they slowly move through. Never knowing when you’re going to be gunned down and doing a bit of player hunting on your own is fun, but can get old after a while.
The modding community has never been averse to adding completely new modes to games. If only it were possible, some new objective-based modes or actual team battles would be amazing. Locking down a small section of the map just so you and three buddies can duke it out against another team of four would really put your loadouts to the test.
Issue Orders to NPCs
Strategy plays a sizable part in The Division’s gameplay. You’ll often find yourself needing to outmaneuver certain enemies, or plan out who to target first and how. When playing with others, this is relatively easy (provided everyone communicates), but playing solo can present problems.
There are NPC soldiers scattered around the world, and some even join you on missions. However, they do their own thing, even if it gets them killed. A mod that would allow you to decide on their next course of action would help out a lot when you’re going it alone. It would also make the world feel much more real as you take command of those looking to you for assistance.
