Steep Review

Ubisoft’s Steep was one of the final major titles to hit the PS4 in 2016. Dropping players onto a huge open-world mountain range to explore at their own leisure, Steep was all about the thrill of going downhill quickly. Of course, the way you seek these thrills is entirely up to you, with skiing, snowboarding, wingsuiting, and paragliding all available for you to switch between on the fly. Steep also comes with a whole host of video recording and editing options, so you can perfectly capture your stylish descent down any of the trails you create, then share it with your friends and challenge them to outdo you.

As you may have guessed then, Steep is quite the large game, and getting its Platinum can be pretty darn tricky. Not only do you have to complete all of the mountain stories in the Alps, but you’ll need to reach 100% exploration on all regions of the Alps, too. On top of that, you’ll have to max out your reputation level by completing events and consistently getting high scores, and you’ll need to get all Gold medals in both the Alps’ public and invitational challenges. Simply completing some of these can be pretty challenging. La Fieuse and Fallen Rocks in particular are two that’ll have you wanting to rage quit over and over again. You can check out the full trophy list here.

Stardew Valley

Finally coming to the PS4 almost a year after it released on the PC, Stardew Valley lets players channel their inner farmer as they attempt to rejuvenate the rundown farm left to them by their grandfather. Alongside simply tending to crops and livestock to raise money for expansions, you’ll also be able to court some of the locals, go mining in caves, fish in the rivers, and donate important items to the museum. There’s a ton of stuff to do in Stardew Valley, and that makes for one seriously time-consuming Platinum trophy.

In order to get the Platinum trophy, players will have to accrue 10 million of the game’s currency, complete the museum collection, reach a 5-heart friend level with 20 people, cook every recipe, catch every fish, ship every item, and find every Stardrop. On top of that, there are also two trophies tied to different ‘endings’. This means you’ll have to put a good chunk of time into a save file, before returning to an earlier stage in order to get the other one. To get Stardew Valley’s Platinum trophy, you’re looking at a good 100+ hour grind.

The Last Guardian

After almost a 10-year wait, players finally got their hands on The Last Guardian in December. Telling a charming tale about a boy and a weird cat/ bird/ dog creature, players must navigate intricate and challenging environments as they guide the duo out of the castle-like surroundings they’re stuck in. While the experience is fairly short, coming in at around 13 hours for a playthrough, it’ll take you much longer than that if you’re going after its Platinum trophy.

You see, The Last Guardian has a plethora of tricky trophies. From completing the game in five hours or less, to hearing every hint, and giving Trico every one of the barrels in the game, this is no walk in the park. You’ll likely have to play through The Last Guardian at least twice. Once where you use a video guide to find all of the collectibles, listen to all of the 95 hints, and make sure you finish without a game over, and another to rush to the end in under five hours. Considering how reluctant Trico can be to listen to your commands sometimes, finishing the game in under five hours could be a tricky one, but learn the path through the maze-like environment and you’ll have a decent shot.
