Fortnite Season 5 Is Almost Here, Let’s Try and Predict Its Theme

fortnite, season 5

Each of Fortnite’s Seasons ends up having a theme of some sort. After the whole will-it-won’t-it situation with the comet crashing into Tilted Towers at the end of Season 3, we did eventually find out that Superheroes were the theme for Season 4, tying nicely into the release of Avengers: Infinity War Part I, and also enabling Epic Games to save Tilted from its rumored ‘doomed’ status. However, that’s all old news now, and Season 5 is just a few days away.

The Wild West Season 5 theme for Fortnite has gained an enormous amount of credence over the past few days, with bizarre goings-on involving Fortnite’s Durr Burger showing up in real-life California, and a mysterious Agent handing out cards with a phone number on them. I mean, I don’t know about you guys, but that background in Durr Burger’s beautiful portrait looks pretty Wild West to me.

There’s also rumors of a hit-and-miss sand bug popping up in the occasional game of Fortnite that covers the map in sand (though it’s apparently since been removed). There are images over on Reddit of the occurrence, but it is possible that this is simply a technical issue with textures failing to load in properly. That sand texture does look pretty real though.

And just over the weekend, following the landmarks of named locations were seemingly consumed by portals during the rocket launch, the first breach portal appeared and has brought through a very Wild West lookin’-ass stagecoach. Considering there’s also a very Wild West-looking skeleton of some sort due to be spat out at some point in the coming days, there’s a good chance we’re already getting pretty massive hints at Fortnite’s Season 5 theme. Hey, we’re all for a Wild West shootout. See you at Salty Saloons!

Ultimate Time Travel

Things could go even further than just simply having the map littered with Wild West objects, and in a way, it doesn’t make complete sense for Season 5 to solely focus on this theme. Especially when you factor in some more of the teases, including the Kitsune Mask image (above) released just today.

For those unaware of the significance of the Kitsune Mask, Japanese folklore tells that Kitsune were the bearers of incredible supernatural powers, including the ability to bend time and space, drive people mad, or take fantastic shapes such as a second moon in the sky. Definitely sounds like the kind of beings capable of saving Tilted Towers from a rocket, tearing a giant time shift portal thing in the sky, and then dumping random items about the map.

If Kitsune do have something to do with what’s going on in Fortnite Season 5, chances are we wouldn’t just be sticking to a Wild West time period or theme. Instead, it’s more likely that Season 5 could be a mishmash of historical time periods, bringing iconic landmarks, items, or mythic abilities to the map.

That’d also explain the anchor included in that datamined image that showed the Stagecoach. We’re not just going to the Wild West time period, but maybe the golden age of piracy too. And don’t forget that giant dinosaur footprint found right at the start of Season 4, too.

Warp Portals and More Mysteries

After the epic rocket launch that blasted off in Fortnite just a couple of weekends ago, we’ve already seen a giant crack across the sky begin to stretch and split further. During the chaos that ensued following the rocket launch in Fortnite, we also saw something zipping in and out of portals which appeared to transport it across the map.

Our final prediction is that much of what’s going on in Fortnite Season 5 will remain a mystery, but for the most part, a lot of things will remain the same. We’re not entirely convinced Epic Games would let Season 5 kick off with such minor changes, but with a massive esports push, Save the World to finish up, and a number of woes with the game’s Limited Time Modes in the past few weeks, overall quality may place higher in Epic’s priorities than incorporating blockbuster changes as part of the new season.

So what would this theme involve? More obscure, random items showing up out of nowhere, but the ability to travel through the portals we’ve seen popping up at the likes of Lonely Lodge, the Motel, and the hill nearby Moisty Mire. This would still be a fairly giant change to the flow of Fortnite as a whole, especially if you could leap from say, Motel, in the north west-ish section of the map all the way down to Lonely Lodge on the far east.
