State of Decay 2 (May 22)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in May 2018
Undead Labs put itself on the map with the release of the original State of Decay back on the Xbox 360 and PC. Players find themselves in a world overrun by the undead, and must find survivors, gather resources, build and develop a safe haven, and, of course, kill a bunch of zombies along the way. The gameplay loop can get fairly repetitive if you don’t like the idea of scavenging a huge area, and inventory management is a key part of the experience with it being a survival game, but there’s something compelling about it all.
If you liked the original, or just like the sound of it, State of Decay 2’s Xbox One release on May 22 should be at the top of your list. Though the core experience has largely remained untouched, you’ll now be able to go scavenging and surviving out in the wilderness with your friends in co-op. Plus, there are even some new zombie variants to try and make your life that little more difficult as you try and destroy the Plague Hearts that have brought the undead to this land. If you’re after an immersive survival title for your Xbox One in May, look no further.
Dark Souls Remastered (May 25)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in May 2018
Dark Souls was one of the biggest and best games of 2011, offering up a world rich with lore, challenging foes, and stellar level design. If you wanted a demanding and immersive RPG, you wanted to pick up Dark Souls. Since then, there have been two sequels and 2015’s Bloodborne each of which has further developed and added to the ‘Souls-like’ gameplay the series is known for.
Dark Souls Remastered shouldn’t really come as a surprise to many. After all, we’re in the age of more remasters and remakes than you can shake a stick at. For the most part, Dark Souls Remastered will keep the core gameplay experience the same, but will see the action play out at a solid 60FPS, and with upgraded visuals to boot. Plus, you’ll get all the DLC content packed in there, too.
Laser League (May 10)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in May 2018
Laser League may not be on the same kind of exposure levels as Dark Souls Remastered and State of Decay 2, but that’s no reason to give it amiss. From the developers behind OlliOlli, Laser League sees two colored teams of up to four players drop into a neon-colored arena with the task of eliminating the opposition. How do you do this? By forming giant neon laser obstacle, trap things, of course!
Honestly, it’s easier to get an idea of how Laser League works by seeing it in action for yourself, but it certainly looks to have nailed that local multiplayer vibe perfect for game nights with friends and/ or family members.
