Banana Fish is a series of gritty crime manga, and the anime adaption is combining everything into one 24-episode season. The anime changes the setting from the 1980s to modern times, but still keeps the main story and characters intact. Banana Fish Ash Lynx, a child runaway who’s been brought up “Papa” Dino Golzine, a powerful crime lord. Ash has grown up in the roles of adopted heir, hatchet man, and even sex toy of Golzine, and now at the rebellious age of seventeen, he’s chosen to live his life with street thugs and forsake his abuser. Golzine can’t let go, however, and there’s a dark secret as to why. At the same time, a pure-hearted young photographer named Eiji Okamura arrives in New York City, and makes the acquaintance of Ash.

Banana Fish is all about Ash’s struggle to separate himself from the only life he’s known, as well as the budding romance between him and Eiji. The show is exclusive to Amazon Prime both in Japan and outside of it. The show just recently premiered on Amazon Prime Japan, and a worldwide release is coming soon.
