Telltale Batman

It’s worth noting here first that this story summary is based entirely on the decisions we made up until this point. Episode five can see a lot of variations in the way it pans out depending on how the player went about particular choices, and as such, your experiences may not be the exact same as ours. In chapter one of episode five, we continued on from having taken down Oswald Cobblepot at Wayne Enterprises at the end of episode four, rather than heading to Wayne Manor to take care of Harvey Dent.

The action begins in episode five with Gordon as he runs to the rooftop of the GCPD building away from Dent’s men. A news broadcast shows reporter Jack Ryder telling of Dent’s atrocities from the previous episode before also being apprehended by Dent’s men. Gordon manages to turn the Batman signal on and unsurprisingly, he eventually appears. After taking care of the goons chasing after Batman’s ally in the police, Gordon will talk about how Dent is a sick man and needs to be stopped. In order to do that, however, you’ll both need to get off this rooftop, first.

Chapter Two

Telltale Batman Episode Four

Batman and Gordon make their way down through the GCPD building, taking out goons along the way. They are then informed by an officer that the commissioner is in the lobby and in danger. Batman and Gordon make their way there and take out the goons, but not before one of them shoots the commissioner. After a moment to grieve, Sergeant Kelly radios in a hostile situation at Wayne Manor. Dent’s responsible, and he’s demanding Bruce Wayne shows up. If Gordon arrives, he’ll kill one of the hostages, but if Batman arrives he’s threatening to kill them all. Gordon is badly injured from the fight and so Batman insists he visits a hospital, before grappling out through the ceiling window to take care of business.

On the rooftop, Batman contacts Alfred to make sure he’s alright. He’s barricaded up in the Batcave, but has heard gunshots. Unfortunately, Dent’s men have taken out the cameras so he’s unaware of what’s going on. Batman then decides he’ll show up as Bruce to prevent him from killing anyone else.

The chapter then flips to a flashback to one year ago of Bruce and Harvey having a drink and discussing the funding for his campaign. Dent reassures Bruce that he’d never forget it and he’d never let him down if Bruce was serious about pledging support.

Back in the present day, Dent is in Wayne Manor threatening hostages. If you’re careful here, you can talk Harvey out of shooting a number of different hostages. After talking Dent out of it, he’ll point the gun to his own head and toss the coin. Bruce catches it in midair, leaving the player with two choices on what to do with it. You can either pocket it and force him to make his own decision, or throw the coin and let it do the job for him. We pocketed the coin, and this led to Dent having a breakdown, unable to make the decision. The police arrest him and take him away.

As you’re talking with the police, a Child of Arkham, one of Dent’s hostages, takes shots at Bruce while shouting that he should be in Arkham Asylum. Fortunately, the police have Bruce’s back and manage to shoot him. With his last breath, the goon informs Bruce that Lady Arkham still hasn’t forgotten about him just yet.

Back in the safe confines of the Batcave, Bruce and Alfred talk about fixing everything. Alfred mentions that he feels he is to blame for all of this. Had he just stood up to Bruce’s father it would all be so different. After discussing this, Bruce will turn to his computer and login to the Wayne Enterprises system to see what Oswald was up to while in charge.

Investigating the Lady Arkham file will bring Bruce back up to speed with everything he knows about her thus far. Logging into Wayne Enterprise’s systems will reveal a number of folders which summarize Penguin’s plans. He was looking into surveillance footage of a number of major buildings around Gotham, was contemplating buying an island and calling it Falcone Island, and was funding the Children of Arkham’s armory with Wayne Tech money. He also altered several public records – his own, Vicki Vale’s, and Bruce’s.

He’s just fooled around in Bruce’s one so he simply corrects it. Cobblepot has falsified his own to make his resume sound incredible, and as for Vicki’s, he’s wiped any mention of her birth name, Vicki Arkham. He also removed a certain publication that she wrote while working at the gazette. Bruce has a program that can decrypt and reverse the removal process. Returning to Vale’s profile, the Bat computer automatically completes the rest of her record, allowing you to discover that she was investigating which people were actually sick at Arkham Asylum and which ones were simply there because Thomas Wayne, Falcone, and Hill had wrongly sanctioned them.

Bruce then learns that she’s been looking into the schematics of every landmark in the city that use Wayne Tech security systems. Suddenly, something pops up on the map and Bruce realized that Selena has stolen one of his motorcycles. Bruce concludes that he’ll need to speak to her in order to get the skeleton key disc that you caught her red-handed trying to steal back in episode one. It would allow Vicki to hack every one of those locations’ security systems remotely. Bruce sets off to meet Selina to ensure she doesn’t give it to Vale for a sizable sum.

Chapter Three

Telltale Batman

Chapter three starts off with Selena riding the motorbike and before long, finding Bruce blocking the road ahead. She asks why she should give the key back to Bruce when she could use it for herself and steal millions. After whatever you choose to say, Selena will give the drive back to Bruce.

She’ll admit that her whole scheme of meeting Dent, being introduced to Bruce Wayne, falling in love with Dent and then running away was her means of getting the drive. It was all just a game to her. She then reveals that she’s leaving Gotham before it completely burns to the ground. You can choose to speak the truth to Selina and she’ll confess to Bruce her true feelings for him.

Bruce then contacts Lucius to let him know that he’s got the drive, but Alfred intervenes and informs him that Lady Arkham and her goons are at the manor, before he gets abruptly cut off. Bruce dons his suit and rushes back to the manor to find the place in a mess. An investigation scene begins which reveals that Alfred had fended goons off on his own, but Lady Arkham managed to overpower him and drag him away. Batman finds a photo out of place on the fireplace with a hidden note on the back. It’s the login details to a stream.

Chapter Four

Lady Arkham has Alfred and is beating him on camera as Batman watches thanks to the login details she left at the crime scene. Upon watching the video, Bruce notices that Alfred is using his glasses to reflect certain images that the Bat computer can analyze and put together an image of his surroundings. Bruce can then investigate this through his suit’s Cowl VR.

Bruce will discover that they’re in some sort of basement, they have professional equipment, and that there’s a label for a heater servicing company you can use to search for home addresses. Skimming through the footage, he’ll also spot a Mason’s stamp which can be used to narrow down your search significantly to those built by stonemasons in 1945. Bruce then sees a  bus stop outside of a basement window. Examining the data as a whole will reveal Vicki is back at her childhood home. Just before Bruce sets off to finally put an end to this, Lucius Fox will give you one final parting gift – a shiny new suit.

Arriving at Vale’s, Batman heads down into the basement. There’s blood on the walls but no sign of Alfred, or anyone else for that matter. You’ll jump into another investigation scene. The blood is still fresh, meaning Alfred isn’t long gone. Batman then notices a blood trail of footprints going into the wall. Kicking down the wall, Batman finds a small room and a hole in the floor leading to something else below. You drop down and discover what seems to be some kind of torture room. There are child’s drawings on the wall, shackles, belts, and blood. Vicki was kept down there, locked away and tortured as a child. Batman pieces together that this is the reason that Vicki is so bitter and desperate for revenge.

Upon investigating the chalk on the wall, Batman uncovers a message from Alfred inferring that Lady Arkham is planning to liberate the inmates of Arkham Asylum and let them riot in the town. Batman tells Lucius to contact GCPD and Gordon to let them know of her plans, while he drives off to Asylum to surprise Vicki. Chapter four ends with Batman taking out a Child of Arkham and standing before Lady Arkham.

Chapter Five

batman, telltale, episode five, review

Whatever you say to Vicki Vale won’t change her actions, but you can get her to talk a little about her dark past. Before long, Batman and Vicki will engage in battle and you’ll be fighting your way through the inmates of Arkham Asylum to chase after her. Batman will then reach a room which will see him utilize his suit’s ability to plan his moves ahead of time. You’ll choose how you want to eliminate each enemy, and then watch Batman take them out.

Unfortunately, Zsasz will then appear again out of nowhere, giving Lady Arkham a chance to escape. Joker will applaud Batman’s victory against Zsasz from the corner, and as more goons close in on Batman, the police arrive and take care of them, leaving Batman to head on after Lady Arkham. Upon catching up with Vicki, Batman demands that she takes him to see Alfred. She obliges and sends him crashing through the floor into some underground catacomb-looking tunnels. Batman navigates these booby-trapped corridors while Vale states how she has done great things for Gotham and tries to talk Batman into her style of thinking.

Eventually, you’ll find Alfred deep in the catacombs. As you set him free, he’ll let you know that Vale was just behind you, and then suddenly disappeared. All of a sudden she appears from above and then Vale pieces together that you’re in fact Bruce from the way you care about a random butler. She then starts to beat Alfred, torturing him to try and lure you out of the cover of your mask. You can either choose to remove it or attack Vicki.

Chapter Six

Telltale Batman

Choosing to attack Vicki, Batman throws a Batarang at the straps holding Alfred in place. Alfred punches her and then she blasts him in the face with her force blast, sending him flying to the floor and severely injured in one eye. The final battle now begins, which leads to the ceiling beginning to fall down in on yourself. Batman must evade the falling rubble and then deliver one final blow to Vale to send her flying across the room.

Batman manages to get to Alfred just before rubble falls on him. Unfortunately, Vicki isn’t quite so lucky and is crushed by rubble upon making her escape. Bats and Alfred manage to just make it out of their alive.

A news report talks about the containment of Arkham Asylum, Vicki Vale’s presumed death, and the end of the Children of Arkham’s reign of terror. Bruce and an eye-patch wearing Alfred have a quick drink together. Alfred goes on to thank Bruce for rescuing him but admits he’s not much use anymore in his current state. Alfred will remind Bruce that he’s done some good in Gotham. The action cuts back to the news report which mentions the Children of Arkham’s actions have left irreversible damage on Gotham.

The report then quickly skips to Gordon, who has now become commissioner of the GCPD. In a speech, he says he hopes the key figures of Gotham’s public will rally to his support. Alfred will advise you to let the people know Bruce is backing Gordon. But then Batman could also show up to voice his support. The choice of how you choose to make your statement is up to you. We decided to go as Batman to the commissioner’s speech. Here, you’ll meet with Gordon behind the scenes and let him know he’s got your support. You can get Gordon to give the public a message on your behalf. Choose as you wish. After that, Gordon will confess that he’s always wanted to be commissioner, but by the time he turns around, Batman has gone. It then skips to his speech where an assassination attempt is undertaken. Batman manages to stop it, just in time.

The action skips back to one final news report. As the camera pulls away, the Joker can be seen watching, before saying it’ll be difficult to top all of the action, but he’ll give it his best shot.
