PS PLUS FREE GAMES PREDICTIONS FOR AUGUST 2018

As a bonus for subscribing to Sony’s online service, every month PS Plus members are also gifted with a few free games to enjoy. They can range from AAA to indie, and can be available on different Sony platforms including PS4, PS3, PS Vita, and PSVR.

Usually at least one larger game makes the cut, and for August 2018 we are going to predict Killzone: Shadow Fall from Guerrilla Games will be available on PS Plus for several reasons. The first, it is published by Sony itself, making it an easier choice to add to the program, and other Killzone games have been added in the past as well including Killzone: Mercenary for PS Vita back in April 2015.

Secondly, Killzone: Shadow Fall has already been offered for free for Japan PS Plus in July 2017. It’s very common for games that make it to the eastern free games list to come to the west afterwards, or vice versa. For example, Ratchet & Clank was offered for free in Japan PS Plus in January 2018 and came to the North American PS Plus a few months later in March.

Killzone: Shadow Fall has even been offered for free for a week back in March 2014. If a game has been offered for free at one point on Sony’s platforms, it’s much more likely to make it to PS Plus in the long run eventually.

Check out page two where we consider a few possible indie game predictions for August 2018’s PS Plus free games list.

INDIES

PS PLUS FREE GAMES PREDICTIONS FOR AUGUST 2018

overcooked, volume, ps plus, predictions

Usually a couple indies make it to the list for PlayStation Plus games as well, and for next month we wouldn’t be surprised to see popular couch co-op title Overcooked make it to players for free.

Overcooked released almost two years ago in August 2016, and since then has received two add-on expansions, The Festive Seasoning, and The Lost Morsel. Offering the base game for free might encourage players to purchase the expansions too, but Sony has been known to include DLC packs along with the base game when it is added to PS Plus as well.

Besides being a popular and well-received indie that subscribers would be happy to receive, Overcooked has also been on sale numerous times including as low as 50 percent off last August 2017. It is also currently on sale for 25 percent off for PS Plus subscribers until July 17, meaning Sony might be trying to entice a few more people to pick it up before finally offering it for free on the service. It’s very common for games that go on sale through PS Plus to make it to the free games lineup eventually.

Finally, Overcooked 2 is set to release next month on August 7. If there was ever a time to offer the first for free, it would be before releasing the second so players could play them in order all at once. As well, if someone enjoys the original Overcooked after getting it for free in early August, they are much more likely to pick up the second one once it drops.

A second possible indie is Volume, which is available on multiple other platforms including both PS4 and PS Vita. Besides the fact that we all know Sony loves to kill two birds with one stone and offer a game available on two PlayStation platforms, Volume has also been on sale through PS Plus back in February 2017 for only $5. Including Volume seems like an inexpensive and easy choice for Sony, and if we don’t see it next month then expect it on PS Plus sometime soon.

Make sure to check back in the next week or two when Sony announces the official list of PS Plus games for August 2018.
