JANUARY 2017 VR RELEASES (JAN 1-31)
While December was a much busier month for scheduled releases due to the Oculus Rift system’s new Touch Controllers, January is much more chill when it comes to VR, with some stragglers from 2016 still hiding under the Q4 2016 release window.
One confirmed release that players can definitely get excited about is the PSVR support arriving alongside the release of Resident Evil 7 biohazard. As the 11th entry into the Resident Evil series, it takes place within a plantation mansion in Louisiana where players struggle to survive in the franchise’s familiar horror-filled gameplay. A demo titled Beginning Hour, including a PSVR version, is currently available for PlayStation Plus members in case you can’t wait for Jan. 24.
Check out January 2017’s confirmed VR releases below:
- Siegecraft Commander – Oculus Rift/HTC Vive (Jan. 17)
- Outrageous Ground: The Maze – Oculus Rift/HTC Vive (Jan. 26)
- Resident Evil 7 biohazard – PSVR (Jan. 24)
January has the potential to host a few other VR titles, as some might arrive this month but have yet to receive an official release date.
The following titles are due to release sometime in early 2017, but have yet to receive a confirmed release date at the time of writing.
- The Cabin: VR Escape the Room – HTC Vive (January 2017)
- Dying Reborn – PSVR (January 2017)
- GNOG – PSVR (Early 2017)

- Megaton Rainfall – PSVR (Q1 2017)

Although a few VR games were supposed to be released sometime in 2016, they ended up getting pushed to later into the new year. They include the highly anticipated Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, originally scheduled for 2016 and now pushed to Q1 2017, Radial G originally set for a Q4 2016 and now expected in 2017, as well as Wave Magic VR, which received a confirmed March 1, 2017 release date when it was previously expected in late 2016.
Finally, a great deal of games were also set to release sometime in late 2016, but never made it to players with no revised release date in sight. Examples include:
- Dead Bug Creek – Oculus Rift/HTC Vive/PSVR (“Late 2016”)
- Moonstrike VR – Oculus Rift (“TBA, 2016”)
- Pixel Ripped 1989 – Oculus Rift/HTC Vive (“2nd half of 2016”)
