Star Wars Day 2022 – May The Fourth

Some of the most iconic Star Wars moments of all time take place in the cockpits. While the Battlefront games give you a taste of that, no game in recent memory has dedicated itself to the art of dogfighting quite like Star Wars Squadrons.

Released late last year, Star Wars Squadrons is an excellent flight combat game set in the Star Wars universe. You can play through a campaign solo, or if you want the thrill of hunting down a pilot with an actual real-life brain, there are multiple 5v5 multiplayer modes as well.

It’s not just Tie Fighters and X-Wings either, a wealth of various iconic ships from Star Wars history is present in Star Wars Squadrons, so you can take your pick depending on what style of play you prefer.

Finally, the icing on the cake is that Star Wars Squadrons features PSVR support, so if you can stomach flying around in a ship in VR, you can get as close to a real experience as possible without having to go to a galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Day 2022 – May The Fourth

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order is arguably one of the best and most critically acclaimed Star Wars games ever made, especially in recent memory. Released back in 2019, it cracked out Game of the Year list for that year and surprised everyone in the gaming and Star Wars community.

For starters, it was developed by Respawn, the development team known for games like Titanfall and Apex Legends; although extremely talented and accomplished, they are not exactly the developer you might think of first when jotting down a list of dream Star Wars game developers.

On top of that, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was an extremely deep and challenging game. In fact, it may be one of the hardest Star Wars games to come out, certainly in modern times, but possibly ever when played on its default or harder difficulties. It really pushes players to carefully coordinate their lightsaber strikes lest they get cut down easily.

If you’re looking for a game that centers on lightsaber combat, and aren’t afraid of a challenge, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order may be the way to go on this May The Fourth.

You can easily play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

Star Wars Day 2022 – May The Fourth

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is perhaps the most definitive Star Wars experience. I say this not to insinuate that it is necessarily the best Star Wars game ever made, it certainly isn’t, but it’s perhaps the most comprehensive when it comes to star power, setting, and mixing all different types of warfare and combat that the series is known for.

You’ll visit settings and battlefields across the entire Star Wars series, customize iconic soldiers using vintage weaponry (with wonderful sound effects to match), and control all different types of vehicles and starships as well such as the AT-RT or the Y-Wing.

And, of course, there’s the opportunity to play as a hero or villain from the series with pretty much just about everyone you can think of making the cut from Darth Vader, to Han Solo to even BB-8.

Star Wars Episode 1: Racer

Star Wars Day 2022 – May The Fourth

If you want to go a little retro this May The Fourth, perhaps something that reminds you of your childhood if you’re a millennial like me, might I suggest Star Wars Episode 1: Racer? The beloved podracing Nintendo 64 game, originally released way back in 1998 was recently re-released late a few years ago for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.

The game has been updated to include more modern-looking, cleaner, and HD graphics. And, as an added bonus, if you’re playing on the Switch you have the options to even play with motion controls if you really want to get into the podracing spirit.

I have a soft spot for the prequel trilogy, so if you’re like me, this might be the way to go this year. Especially since, as compared to the rest of the games on this list, Star Wars Episode 1: Racer is a budget game listed at only $14.99.
