PROFESSOR LAYTON
LEVEL-5 GAMES WE’D LOVE TO SEE ON SWITCH
The Professor Layton series has always strayed far from home consoles, releasing only on mobile devices and on the 3DS since 2007, the puzzle-solving franchise would feel right at home on Nintendo’s new hybrid console. With the portability of the Switch, it would work the same way that it does on the 3DS. You can solve a puzzle or two, put the game to rest, and come back whenever you feel like it. The only problem that arises when bringing the series to the Switch is the fact that it is a hybrid console. The touchscreen works fine when in handheld mode, but what happens when you plug the Switch into the dock and attempt to play on a big screen? There wouldn’t be any proper touchscreen controls!
According to an interview with Eurogamer, Level-5 is indeed trying to get Layton onto the Nintendo Switch, but the touchscreen controls that the Layton franchise is known for, might have to take a backseat in order for a game like this to work on the Switch. Either that or we might be getting another Switch title that only works in handheld mode, which we wouldn’t be upset about. Imagine an HD quality Layton game with full voice-acting, an abundant amount of puzzles, and on a bigger screen – we would totally be down for that in the near future. And with Layton’s daughter Katrielle seemingly taking the reins as the new titular hero, It would only make sense for Level-5 to take her away from the nearly dead 3DS and place her in the hands of the Switch.
