NI NO KUNI II: REVENANT KINGDOM
LEVEL-5 GAMES WE’D LOVE TO SEE ON SWITCH
The original Ni no Kuni was such a crazy beautiful masterpiece of a game that made us feel as if we were playing a literal Studio Ghibli film. The game’s animated cutscenes, world-building, and character development made it one of those titles that we can’t but think about when hear the company Level-5.
The sequel to Ni no Kuni, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, has unfortunately been delayed to March of 2018 for some last minute touching up and we can’t help but think about how this pushback could eventually lead to a release on Switch. Now we know that Revenant Kingdom was announced as a PS4 exclusive, but do keep in mind that the first Ni no Kuni actually came out for the Nintendo DS in Japan – before it ever came out west for the PS3. This doesn’t mean that there’s a chance that it can come to the Switch, but we can dream right?
YO-KAI WATCH
LEVEL-5 GAMES WE’D LOVE TO SEE ON SWITCH
Yo-Kai Watch always gets compared to Pokemon simply because of the fact that you capture monsters, use them in battle, and train them to level up and learn new abilities. Yo-Kai Watch finally made it overseas a few years ago, but unfortunately the series hasn’t been getting as much recognition here in the west as it did in Japan. Still, seeing a new console version of Yo-Kai Watch on the Switch would be pretty neat.
The series, like Pokemon, has stayed on portable devices and relies heavily on touchscreen controls. Putting this franchise on the Switch would require Level-5 to overhaul the battle system to make it work on a television screen and a proper controller. Having Yo-Kai Watch on the Switch would open up the series to a whole new audience and would definitely fill that cute role-playing hole that seems to be absent on the Switch – a perfect game to play while we wait for a proper Pokemon title on Switch.
PROFESSOR LAYTON
LEVEL-5 GAMES WE’D LOVE TO SEE ON SWITCH
The Professor Layton series has always strayed far from home consoles, releasing only on mobile devices and on the 3DS since 2007, the puzzle-solving franchise would feel right at home on Nintendo’s new hybrid console. With the portability of the Switch, it would work the same way that it does on the 3DS. You can solve a puzzle or two, put the game to rest, and come back whenever you feel like it. The only problem that arises when bringing the series to the Switch is the fact that it is a hybrid console. The touchscreen works fine when in handheld mode, but what happens when you plug the Switch into the dock and attempt to play on a big screen? There wouldn’t be any proper touchscreen controls!
According to an interview with Eurogamer, Level-5 is indeed trying to get Layton onto the Nintendo Switch, but the touchscreen controls that the Layton franchise is known for, might have to take a backseat in order for a game like this to work on the Switch. Either that or we might be getting another Switch title that only works in handheld mode, which we wouldn’t be upset about. Imagine an HD quality Layton game with full voice-acting, an abundant amount of puzzles, and on a bigger screen – we would totally be down for that in the near future. And with Layton’s daughter Katrielle seemingly taking the reins as the new titular hero, It would only make sense for Level-5 to take her away from the nearly dead 3DS and place her in the hands of the Switch.
DARK CLOUD
LEVEL-5 GAMES WE’D LOVE TO SEE ON SWITCH
Dark Cloud just happens to be at the end of this list for a very good reason – the elephant in the room you can say. Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 were both developed by Level-5 but were actually published by Sony Computer Entertainment, which means that the franchise is technically a PlayStation exclusive. A new or old Dark Cloud title coming to the Switch in any way, shape, or form would be nearly impossible – unless some type of insane deal were to happen behind the curtain.
Dark Cloud’s randomly generated dungeons, unique city-building mechanics, and moment-to-moment gameplay made this franchise something truly special for any owners of the PlayStation 2. What also made Dark Cloud truly special was the fact that it was the first fully-fledged title to release under Level-5’s name. There’s no telling if we’ll be seeing any more of Dark Cloud in the near future, but if we did, having the series on a system like the Switch would be purely delightful.
