Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 is probably the most anticipated exclusive on the PlayStation 4 since the console was released in November 2013. Naughty Dog’s game was announced on Nov. 14, 2013, just one day before the release of the PlayStation 4 in North America. With Nathan Drake’s final adventure due to release on May 10 2016, after a few delays, we only have to wait a couple of weeks to play it. On May 10 it will be 2 years, 5 months, 3 weeks, and 5 days since the first announcement. Alternatively, that is 908 days, or 21,792 hours, or 1,307,520 minutes.

No Man’s Sky

no man's sky, PlayStation 4, PC, cross-system

Although no-one knew much about it, No Man’s Sky looked like a stunning project when it was first announced on Dec. 9, 2013. Hello Games, known before No Man’s Sky as the developer of Joe Danger, revealed the game via an announcement trailer and showed gameplay footage at E3 the following June. Gamers will be able to experience the unique procedurally generated universe on June 21. On that date it will be 2 years, 6 months, 1 week, and 5 days after. Alternatively, that is 925 days, or 22,200 hours, or 1,332,000 minutes.

Legend of Zelda Wii U

Legend of Zelda U Landscape

We aren’t sure what console the next Legend of Zelda game will be released on, let alone when it will come out. With the underwhelming sales of the Wii U, it is possible that the game has been pushed back to release on the NX instead of, or as well as, the Wii U. As Nintendo have not officially announced the NX, it is possible that the game may miss 2016 entirely. If we were to use Sept. 1 of this year as the earliest possible release date it will be 3 years, 7 months, 1 week, and 2 days since the first announcement. Alternatively, that is 1317 days, or 31,608 hours, or 1,896,480 minutes.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

There were numerous hints to the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided before its official announcement on Apr. 8, 2015. In October 2013, Eidos Montreal revealed that the Deus Ex series would be branching out to the mobile and print media markets. At the same time, the developer suggested that the team behind Human Revolution was working on a new game. In March 2014 Square Enix filed a trademark for Mankind Divided. Finally, a day before the official announcement, the information included in the unveiling was leaked. With the game due out on Aug. 23 it has been 1 year, 4 months, 2 weeks, and 1 day since the official announcement. Alternatively, that is 503 days, or 12,072 hours, or 724,320 minutes.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst

mirror's edge

A new Mirror’s Edge game was initially revealed at E3 in 2013 but the official title was not revealed until the same conference two years later. It was clear early on that Catalyst would be more of a origin story for the series’ protagonist, Faith, rather than a direct sequel. Catalyst has also recently been delayed by a further two weeks, so it will now release on June 10, making it 3 years and 3 days since the official reveal. Alternatively, that is 1099 days, or 26,376 hours, or 1,582,560 minutes.

Crackdown 3

The game was first revealed at E3 in 2014 but wasn’t confirmed as Crackdown 3 until Gamescom in 2015. The cloud-powered destruction, a feature that could produce superior graphics, was first demoed there. We don’t know exactly when the game will be released, but it is likely to be during the fall of this year. If we were to use 1 October as the earliest possible release date, it would have been 2 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, and 1 day since the first announcement. Alternatively, that is 845 days, or 20,280 hours, or 1,216,800 minutes.

Doom

Doom, demon, beta, impressions

The new Doom game, initially known a Doom 4, was first announced on May 7, 2008. Since then, the game has been through development hell and it is now a reboot of the classic shooter series. In August 2013 it was announced that the game had gone back to the drawing board and was being developed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One instead of the previous generation of consoles. There have been a lot of beta tests since then and the game will finally come out on May 13 2016. That will make it 8 years and 6 days since the first announcement. Alternatively, it will be 2928 days, or 70,272 hours, or 4,216,320 minutes.

Pokemon Sun & Moon

Pokemon Sun and Moon

Trademarks for two new 3DS Pokemon games were leaked on Feb. 25, 2016 with the games being officially announced as Sun and Moon during a Nintendo direct the following day. Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Pokemon, the games will release later this year. Since the games were announced in late February, it will be less than a year between reveal and release, if they are available in 2016 as planned.

Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo carbuncle

Final Fantasy XV is one of the most anticipated games in 2016 not only because of how popular the series is, but because fans have had to wait so long. The game, originally known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, was initially revealed at E3 on May 8, 2006. 10 years later and we finally know the release date: Sept. 30, 2016. The game was supposed to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive but it was rebranded as Final Fantasy XV in 2013 and the platforms were changed. When it finally releases to the public it will have been 10 years, 4 months, 3 weeks, and 1 day since the first reveal. Alternatively, that is 3798 days, or 91,152 hours, or 5,469,120 minutes. To put that into perspective, every other game on this list that is part of a series (aside from Doom) has had at least one previous game released between the announcement and the release of Final Fantasy XV. That is how long we’ve been waiting.

Gears of War 4

Gears of War

It was always quite clear that a new Gears of War game would be coming to the Xbox One. The question was when and who would be developing it. On Jan. 27, 2014, Microsoft announced that it had acquired the rights to the the series from Epic Games. At the same time, the company revealed that a new game was in development for the Xbox One and that it was being developed by The Coalition. Fast forward to April 2016 and Microsoft announced that Gears 4 would be released on Oct. 11, 2016, making it the Xbox One’s AAA fall exclusive of 2016. By then it will have been 2 years, 8 months, and 2 weeks since the first announcement. Alternatively, that is 988 days, or 23,712 hours, or 1,422,720 minutes.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn, Aloy characters

Recent rumours suggest Horizon: Zero Dawn has been delayed until 2017 but since that has not been confirmed by Sony or the developer, we can still consider it to be a 2016 release. Concept art and the game’s codename were leaked in September 2014 but the game wasn’t officially announced until Sony’s E3 press conference on June 14, 2015. After developing the Killzone games, this is a big change in genre for Guerilla Games. If Horizon does release this year, possibly in November, then it will have been at least 1 year, 4 months, 2 weeks, and 3 days since the first E3 announcement. Alternatively, that is 505 days, or 12,120 hours, or 727,200 minutes.

Dishonored 2

Dishonored, , games, last gen, must play, cannot miss

The second Dishonored game was initially revealed during Bethesda’s E3 press conference on June 14, 2015, but information on the game was leaked the day before, during rehearsals for the show. Although we do not know exactly when it will be released, it is expected to be in late 2016. The first game was released on Oct. 9, 2012, so if we were to use the same date, but in 2016, as a placeholder for the release of the sequel, it will have been 1 year, 3 months, 3 weeks, and 4 days since the initial announcement. Alternatively, that is 483 days, or 11,592 hours, or 695,520 minutes.

Recore

Recore, Xbox One, PC

Recore was one of the big reveals during Microsoft’s E3 press conference in 2015. Being developed by Comcept and Armature Studio, and produced by Keiji Inafune, it looked like a very exciting exclusive for the Xbox One. However, on Jan. 4, 2016 Microsoft revealed that the game would also be coming to PC and they hinted that the game would be delayed. However, since the publisher has not confirmed that the game has been delayed out of 2016, we can still hope to see it later this year. By September of this year it will have been 1 year, 2 months, 2 weeks, and 3 days since the first announcement trailer on 15 June 2015. Alternatively, that is 444 days, or 10,656 hours, or 639,360 minutes.

Last Guardian

The Last Guardian, PlayStation 4, define, Sony

The game was first teased in Famitsu on Feb. 14, 2007 but it wasn’t officially shown off until Sony’s E3 press conference on June 2, 2009. Initially known as Project Trico due to it being Team Ico’s third game as a developer, The Last Guardian’s development has become a source of humor in the gaming world. Having seemingly been so sure of the game as a PlayStation 3 release that would appear not long after the announcement, the subsequent delays and disappearance make it almost unbelievable to think it should be out this year. It is still due later this year and it will be a surprise if it doesn’t because surely Sony can’t delay it again due to the reaction they would inevitably get. By September of this year it will have been 9 years, 6 months, 2 weeks, and 4 days since it first appeared in Famitsu. Alternatively, that is 3487 days, or 83,688 hours, or 5,021,280 minutes.

 Persona 5

Persona 5

Although rumours of Persona 5’s development had been floating around since 2009, it was not until Aug. 9, 2012 that the game was officially announced. Confirmation of development was given by Katsura Hashino during an interview with Famitsu. Since then, a series of hints and leaks have given more information on the game and its development, with Atlus insisting that the game is due to come out in 2016. Some fans are still not so sure, but just last week the developer posted a website with a countdown to something Persona 5 related. Atlus continues to insist the game will release this summer so by the beginning of August it will have been 3 years, 11 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days since the official announcement in 2012. Alternatively, that is 1454 days, or 34,896 hours, or 2,093,760 minutes.
