Milotic
Introduced in the third generation, Milotic is a Water/Dragon type Pokemon that stands at 20 feet, 4 inches/6.2 meters. From generation five onwards, Milotic evolves from Feebas when leveled up with its beauty condition high enough or when traded holding a Prism Scale.
Living at the bottom of large lakes, Milotic’s is said to be the most beautiful of creatures, using waves of energy to create calm and end arguments. Although Milotic is one of the biggest beasts, it isn’t one of the most threatening.
Gyarados/Mega Gyarados
Both Gyarados and its Mega Evolution are 21 feet, 4 inches/6.5 meters in length. The standard Gyarados is part of the original generation of Pokemon and is a Water/Flying type that somehow evolves from Magikarp. How such a terrifying creature came from something so useless is one of the Pokemon world’s biggest mysteries.
The Mega Evolution of Gyarados swaps its Flying element for Dark type and gains a lot of power in the process. According to the Pokedex, Gyarados is capable of levelling entire cities with its rage so isn’t a monster to be messed with.
Hoopa Unbound
Hoopa was unveiled in February 2015, making it one of the newest Pokemon on this list. The original ‘confined’ Hoopa is a Psychic/Ghost type Pokemon that stands at 1 foot, 8 inches/0.5 meters but the ‘unbound’ version is a massive 21 feet, 4 inches/6.5 meters in height.
Although Hoopa is not known to evolve into, or from, any other Pokemon, its alternate form can be unleashed by using a Prison Bottle. Hoopa Unbound will revert into Hoopa Confined if three days have passed after using the Prison Bottle or if it is deposited in the PC. Creating the Unbound Hoopa also swaps its Ghost element for Dark element. Now, at twelve times its initial height, Hoopa can use its hoops to their full potential.
Giratina
Giratina was introduced in generation four and is a Ghost/Dragon Legendary Pokemon that stands at 22 feet, 8 inches/6.9 meters tall. There are two versions of Giratina – an altered form and an origin form, the latter being the taller of the two.
The mascot for Pokemon Platinum is not to be messed with and was banished from Earth for violent behaviour. Its second form is activated by giving Giratina a Griseous Orb to hold, or while it is in its home, Distortion World.
Rayquaza
The standard version of Rayquaza stands at a massive 23 feet/7 meters. Introduced in generation three, Rayquaza is a Dragon/Flying Legendary Pokémon that was the game mascot of Pokemon Emerald.
Although Rayquaza is huge, with terrifying appearance, it is not as threatening as other beasts on this list. It lives in the sky and mostly exists to stop conflicts between the powerful Groudon and Kyogre. Yes, Rayquaza is powerful but it supposedly acts as protection for the inhabitants of the Pokemon world.
Onix
All early Pokemon fans know Onix. He was the largest Pokemon in the original set and was a favourite of Brock in both the anime and the early games. Onix is a Rock/Ground type Pokemon and stands at 28 feet, 10 inches/8.8 meters tall.
Onix is essentially a chain of connected boulders that is capable of travelling at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour while underground. It often attacks enemies by burrowing underground and surprising them with its speed. However, he evolves into something even bigger…
Primal Kyogre
The standard Kyogre is another legendary Pokemon from the third generation. It can undergo Primal Reversion and become Primal Kyogre if it holds the Blue Orb. The Primal Kyogre is twice the size of the standard Kyogre and measures a massive 32 feet, 1 inch/9.8 meters in height.
The mascot for Pokemon Sapphire, Kyogre often came into conflict with Groudon as it attempted to expand the oceans. It also has its own Pokémon ability that boosts the power of its Water attacks while rendering all fire techniques useless.
Mega Steelix
Here is the first Mega Evolution on this list. The Mega Steelix is 34 feet, 5 inches/10.5 meters in size -over 4 feet bigger than the standard Steelix. It doesn’t gain a new element but it gains strange markings across its body. The standard Steelix mega evolves using the Steelixite.
As a result of the mega evolution, the Steelix becomes much more powerful and its physical defence stat increases significantly. Mega Steelix is the first of two Mega Evolutions in the the top three largest Pokemon.
Mega Rayquaza
As the standard Rayquaza feeds on meteorites in the Earth’s atmosphere it gradually stores power allowing it to turn into Mega Rayquaza, the second Mega Evolution on this list. As long as it knows the move Dragon Ascent, it can mega evolve becoming 35 feet, 5 inches/10.8 meters in size – over twelve feet larger than the standard Rayquaza.
By shedding its Flying element, making it a solely Dragon type Pokemon, Mega Rayquaza is much faster and stronger than it original form. It becomes so strong that, in the anime, it defeated both Mega Charizard X and Mega Metagross.
Wailord
The largest creature in the whole Pokemon universe is surprisingly not a special evolution of any kind. Wailord is a staggering 47 feet, 7 inches/14.5 meters in length – a full 12 feet bigger than the second largest Pokemon.
The Pokedex refers to it as a ‘float-whale’ Pokemon due to its surprisingly low weight. At just 900 pounds it isn’t close to being the heaviest water type Pokemon. It also isn’t as powerful as the other monsters on this list. With a body made mostly of air it is not a threatening creature. However, maybe we will see a powerful, and even bigger, Mega Wailord in the future.
