You Can Respec Your Character Whenever You Want
The nice thing about Borderlands 3 is that it understands that everyone makes mistakes, especially when you’re dumping points into your skill trees without reading ahead and figuring out what you actually want later on down the line.
No need to deny it. You’ve done it. We’ve all been down that road.
Anyway, the good news is that it’s extremely easy to respec your character in Borderlands 3 and reallocate all those skill points you’ve earned while playing. All you have to do is hit up a quick change station and choose the Respect option.
This allows you to experiment with different builds and play styles until you find one that truly speaks to you.
The one thing you do actually need to stress about is picking your class or character at the start of the game. Once you choose your character, that choice is final, and you’ll have to start a new file to check out the other three options.
Farming Bosses Is Easier than Ever
Whereas in past games in which you didn’t always have nicely placed checkpoints right outside boss arenas, Borderlands 3 rectifies that mistake by putting checkpoints outside almost every boss arena in the game. This means that farming bosses in Borderlands 3 is a lot easier than before.
While we don’t necessarily recommend farming bosses early on in your first playthrough (you’ll naturally get better guns as you play), this can come in very handy later when you’re trying to get legendary drops from specific bosses. Especially when you start new game plus.
To farm bosses in Borderlands 3, just make sure you tag the checkpoint outside the boss room, kill the boss, log out, log back in, and they should respawn.
Side Missions Are Pretty Much Mandatory
Side missions in Borderlands 3 aren’t required for story progression, but we strongly recommend knocking them out whenever you come across them, especially when you get to Promethea, which is the second planet you’ll visit.
The story missions in Borderlands 3 actually amp up the level recommendations pretty quickly, and it’s definitely not advisable for players to tackle missions that are three levels higher than they are. This usually results in a pretty bad time and lots of party wipes.
Side missions in this game are generally pretty fun and flavorful, and give you access to pretty good gear as long as you’re doing them at the right level. They also give you tons of experience, which will let you tackle the story missions at a comfortable pace.
Save Your Money for Inventory Space
Inventory space in Borderlands 3 is ridiculously limited, so we definitely recommend saving your money to buy more space as soon as you can.
Once you leave Pandora, you’ll be able to visit Marcus on Sanctuary to purchase some inventory space. The cost goes up the more you buy, but it’s definitely worth saving your money for it.
Marcus also lets you purchase more ammo space for different weapon types, but we’d prioritize inventory space first before looking at ammo.
From what we’ve played so far, the game definitely gives you tons of nice guns to choose from as you clear missions, so there’s not much point in spending your cash on guns at the vending machines. Save them for inventory space.
You Can Fast Travel Anywhere
Lastly, this might not be immediately apparent to new players, but you don’t have to walk to a fast travel point on the map in order to fast travel.
In addition to that, your vehicles can also act as fast travel points, which means you don’t have to manually walk back to them either.
From your ECHO menu, go to the map tab and just select your desired fast travel points from there. You can warp to any fast travel point on any planet regardless of where you are, so make use of that to get around quickly.
