6 Iconic Costumes that Should have Been in Marvel’s Spider-Man
The Bombastic Bag-Man / The Amazing Bag-Man
Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 boasted a wide array of classic Spidey garments, but a few were curiously missing. Of course, Insomniac was not going to waste all of its costume potential, especially with DLC on the way. Despite the obvious financial benefits of keeping the costume selection limited, here are six of Spider-Man’s costumes should have made the cut:
Sure, we had a few comedic surprises in Spider-Man’s wardrobe, but the Bag-Man costume would have been a real treat. For those unaware, this costume may seem confusing: yes, that *is* Spidey in a Fantastic Four costume. Yes, instead of a mask, he chose a *bag* as his mask. Oh, and if you do a quick Google search, it also comes with a “Kick Me!” sign on the back. The story behind this costume stretches back to the Symbiote Saga, when Peter Parker donned the now-famous Symbiote Suit.
When experimenting with a piece of the symbiote from Peter, the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards asked to examine it in the lab. However, this left Peter costumeless, and he could not exactly go web-slinging in his normal clothes. As a result, the Human Torch lent him a Fantastic Four costume, a lunch bag, and no shoes. The “Kick Me!” sign came courtesy of Johnny. The costume made a short re-appearance during the Identity Crisis arc, where Peter named himself “The Bombastic Bag-Man.”

Cosmic Suit
What happens when you cross Spider-Man with Captain Universe? Not only do you get one of the most powerful Marvel entities, but you also get a pretty sick costume, too. Cosmic Spider-Man has appeared in games before, namely The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the mobile game Spider-Man Unlimited.
The origins of this costume is a little confusing for those not extremely well-versed in the Marvel Universe, but the Cosmic arc led to a Spidey that was incredibly powerful, but where his own God-like powers became a hindrance due to his empathy. For the PlayStation 4 game’s intents and purposes though, this suit looks sick, could have come with some cool cosmic powers, and that is all that matters.

Cyborg Suit
For the few Bionic Commando fans out there, this Spider-Man suit may be a total winner. Little is known about Cyborg Spider-Man, who is an alternate universe version of the famed web-slinger. During the Superior Spider-Man arc, taking place on Earth-2818. His implants are never explained, and he does not get much page time, but he looks pretty dope regardless. He is slain by Daemos, a multiverse totem hunter. Aside from looking cool, Insomniac could have bundled some unique power into this cybernetic implants, especially with little to no lore blocking them from doing so.

Spider-Armor MK I
Sure, we got two variants of the Spider-Armor in Marvel’s Spider-Man, but Insomniac missed out on the coolest-looking one! Players could unlock the Mark II, III, and IV variants, but the first is curiously missing. Despite this suit only lasting for one issue in the mainline series, the suit stands out with its silver design and the fact that it made Peter Parker bulletproof for a time, which would have translated to a nice suit power in-game.
The suit has been the main feature of several alternate universe Spideys, and was unlockable in both Spider-Man for PlayStation, Web of Shadows, and Shattered Dimensions. Famous as more of an alternate costume than a mainline entity, it is odd that the MK I was absent from Spidey’s costume selection.

Unlimited Suit
Created exclusively for the short-lived cartoon of the same name, the Unlimited suit blended together classical Spidey design with a millennial twist. Featuring the addition of a cape, the Unlimited suit had no special powers, merely existing to differentiate this universe’s Peter Parker from the mainline series. The suit looks amazing, though, and seeing as Marvel’s Spider-Man features an array of alternate universe suits, Unlimited should have been top of the list.Â

The Symbiote Suit / The Black Suit
Widely regarded as being the suit synonymous with Spider-Man’s highpoint, the Symbiote Suit or Black Suit is associated with three key points in Peter Parker’s life: the Symbiote saga, Kraven’s Last Hunt, and the now retconned death of Aunt May. Being re-imagined many times over in movies, cartoons, spin-offs, and pretty much every single Spider-Man game, the suit is almost as famous as the web-slinger’s original red and blue suit.
During the Symbiote arc, the black suit was the result of bonding with an alien lifeform, who gave Peter improved physical abilities, but also a proneness to aggression. After ridding himself of the parasite, which went on to bond with Eddie Brock to create Venom, Black Cat sewed together a new black suit for him to wear. Her reasoning? She thought Spider-Man looked cooler in black, and we are inclined to agree.
