Ni No Kuni II
After Sony CEO Shawn Layden teased that there would be some major Japanese game announcements at E3 2017, we made sure to keep an eye out for those at their press conference. A little disappointingly, there didn’t seem to be too many Japanese announcements at all, though the games that did get announced were big hitters.
Sony’s E3 2017 pre-show kicked off with the release date announcement of Level-5’s new JRPG, Ni No Kuni II. Following a completely new set of characters and storyline, the game still retains that Studio Ghibli visual charm, and it features music from renowned composer Joe Hisaishi.
Ni No Kuni II is set to be released for the PS4 and PCÂ on Nov. 10.
Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus remains as one of the most beloved games of all time even today, which explains why Sony ported the game over to the PS3 a few years ago. Unfortunately, the gameplay doesn’t quite hold up today, and the movement and combat can tend to feel a little clunky and dated.
To breathe new life into this fantastic IP, and to bring newcomers into the fold, Sony announced a PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, complete with a full trailer showing off Wander taking on some of the massive colossi in the game.
The Shadow of the Colossus remake is set to be released exclusively for the PS4 some time in 2018.
Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep
I certainly hope Layden didn’t have this particular game in mind when he talked about major Japanese game releases. Final Fantasy XV’s VR companion game was announced at E3 last year, and it’s still a thing. It’s called Monster of the Deep, and it has a heavy focus on Final Fantasy XV’s own fishing mini game.
Players with the PSVR headset will be able to jump into the game and hang out with Noctis and the boys as they go on little fishing trips together and check out the marine life they manage to get their hands on. The trailer didn’t really show too much of the titular monster of the deep, but we’re assuming that there’s some sort of boss fish you’ll have to catch at the end of the game.
Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep is coming exclusively to PSVR, but there’s no release date for it just yet.
Marvel vs Capcom Infinite
As the title suggests, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite features iconic characters from both Marvel and Capcom IPs. The latest trailer shown off at Sony’s E3 2017 conference featured characters like Rocket and Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as popular Capcom icons like Chris Redfield from Resident Evil and Ryu from Street Fighter. Instead of 3v3 fights like in previous entries, Infinite focuses on a tag-based 2v2 formula instead.
Marvel vs Capcom Infinite finally got a confirmed release date at the press conference, and Sony also announced that a story demo was now available on the PlayStation Store.
Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is set to be released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Sept.19.
Monster Hunter World
Without a doubt, Monster Hunter World was one of the big highlights of Sony’s E3 2017 conference. The game has certainly received a huge graphical facelift, and it looks more beautiful than any of its predecessors could ever hope to be. The debut trailer featured the player character wrapping himself in leaves as he tried to avoid detection from the large beasts in the world. World also introduces a new grappling hook mechanic where the player character swings from tree to tree, trying to nail down a monster in vines.
Monster Hunter World’s world (ha) looks huge, but the trailer didn’t give any indication as to whether it would be split up into segmented areas with loading screens, or if it’d be one big seamless open world.
Monster Hunter World is set to be released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
