Journey to the Center
This is the primary path that everyone knew about going into No Man’s Sky. Hello Games shared that the universe would be huge and that a mystery lay in wait at the center of it all. When you first start up, it’s highlighted for you when you finally get a Hyperdrive, and there are ways to speed up your journey.
Right now it’s the most basic path, with little more than your desire to see the center first pushing you along. That’s not a bad thing, though there is plenty to see on your way as you raid planets for necessary resources and valuable information. In some ways it’s No Man’s Sky lite, giving you a taste of the universe with a clear and direct path for you to follow. Definitely helpful since looking at the map will give those who find making decisions difficult a reason to panic.
You Can Go Your Own Way
You can, if you so choose, ignore everything that Hello Games has put in place to guide you through No Man’s Sky seemingly infinite universe. Why follow a path towards the center when you see an odd looking sun looming to the east? That’s part of the beauty of No Man’s Sky. You can go wherever you want, provided that you have the time to figure out how to get there.
Each galaxy is filled to the brim with new species, geography, and lore for you to take in. You may find yourself on a beach in one moment, only to end up in an irradiated wasteland that would make Fallout 4 blush. There’s something about sailing the stars all alone that is oddly serene, and sticking to a path that you forge all on your own is what exploration is truly about.
Of course, you can always jump back and head towards the center of the universe if you want, or decide on an entirely different path. The choice is truly yours.
Atlas
Another path that starts very early in No Man’s Sky, shortly after obtaining the Hyperdrive, is the path of Atlas. This path tasks players with seeking out the mysterious, god-like entity known as Atlas to find out what it wants. Its series of quests offers a different experience that still centers on exploration but offers a look into something deeper to guide you along your journey.
That isn’t to say that there’s nothing deep waiting for players at the end of journeying to the center of the universe. It’s just that this particular path toys with the ideas of religion, destiny, and free will. It’s an interesting little journey to be had for those looking for more of a pre-written narrative to their adventure, and it has multiple endings, which should provide a lot of excitement.
Which path are you looking to embark on when you first take flight? Will you gun it for the center, or will you allow your attention to stray so that you can explore all options. Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
