SEGA has successfully launched Sonic Mania with the help of Christian Whitehead, PagodaWest Games, and Headcannon. The retro-style throwback definitely harkens back to the good ol’ days when Sonic was competing with Nintendo’s famous mascot, Mario. Sonic Mania has some brand-new stages as well as remixed levels from Sonic 1, 2, and 3, making fans of the series go crazy. Players are having a blast with the title, with some even arguing that it is the best Sonic game of all time but if you expect the developers to add more levels to the game, then you might be a bit disappointed with this news.
In an interview with the japanese site, Gamer, Takashi Iizuka spoke on why DLC for Sonic Mania is currently not part of the plan. Series Producer, Iizuka, explained that when the game was nearing development, there were no stages that were cut. All of the love and care that went towards the game apparently made it in and didn’t have to hit the cutting room floor. Therein lies the reason why there is no planned additional content for Sonic Mania. Iizuka also spoke on the concept of the story, and why some of the stages are more interesting than their originals, which you can read here.
