Whether you’re a PlayStation or Xbox gamer, the sound you hear when unlocking your respective accolade is nothing short of incredibly addictive and satisfying. You’ve toiled away for countless hours perfecting your lap time, your strategy for an attack, or battle plan for a boss and it’s finally paid off.
While the simple achievement of beating this target is pretty great, that little jingle of your achievement or trophy finally unlocking is like the virtual cherry on the top of this beautiful ice cream sundae moment. You’ll never openly admit that you get tingly feelings inside when you hear it, but don’t worry, we all get it.
The List Can Sway Your Spending Habits
We’ve all been there. A new game has released and while it appeals to you a little bit, you’re not sure if you’re completely invested in its offerings to go ahead and drop the money. That’s where the list test comes into play. “Is this gonna be a nice boost to my trophy collection and/or gamerscore?” You ask yourself.
The answer ultimately helps you make this tricky decision. A nice and easy list just means that you’ll pass up on that takeout pizza you were thinking on having. A more demanding list sees your money remain safely in your bank account and wallet. It’s only a decision you’ll take in as a final measure to finally put your mind to rest from going back and forth, but let’s be honest. It sure is a helpful way to determine it.
A Couple Hours for Collectibles? That’s Nothing
A ton of collectibles littered across a game’s world or multiple levels may be enough to put your ordinary gamers off from getting all 1000 gamerscore or grabbing that platinum trophy, but not you. A couple of hours simply searching for some cool little collectibles is nothing. Especially when it’s a nice gold trophy or hefty chunk of gamerscore.
Be in Fallout 4’s bobbleheads dotted around the Commonwealth, or Quantum Break’s 206 collectibles, you’ll be there, and you’ll slog it out in an evening with a trusty guide by your side. You’re not going to let some measly collectibles get in your way from that sweet taste of success.
A Guide Is Your Best Friend
Sometimes, no matter how hard you try or however many times you check out the world, that boss won’t be beaten and that last damn collectible just doesn’t want to be found.
That’s where having your smart device next to you always comes in handy. Having a quick check on the likes of xboxachievements or playstationtrophies will provide you with guides that can help you to take down this pesky boss or pinpoint the exact location of that collectible you’re missing. Hunters don’t always have to go on their own.
Stacking those Difficulty Achievements
Some of the most common achievements/ trophies in a game’s list are the ones that require you to beat the game on easy, normal, hard, extra hard etc difficulties. While the hardest difficulties may be blocked off until you’ve gone through the game a first time, us hunters will know that going through on the hardest possible difficulty is more than likely going to lead to you getting a nice horde once the credits roll. At least, it better have.
Stacking difficulty trophies and achievements is an important rule to remember. If you’re trying to pick up as many achievements or trophies in as short of a time as possible, always go on the highest difficulty you can realistically take on. The continuous sound of trophies or achievements unlocking at the end will make those trickier stages in the game all the more worth it.
Online Achievements and Trophies Suck
While single-player achievements can ultimately be put down to testing your skill, or in some cases patience, online-based accolades can be just straight up frustrating to try and get. We’ve all been there, only a few trophies left to grab on our list until that sweet platinum and a quick glance at the list shows an online trophy requiring us to be ranked number one on the leaderboards (I’m looking at you, Elder Scrolls Online).
It’s a soul-destroying moment when you realize that just one online achievement is going to stop you from having the full set. Especially ones that require you to put in far far too much work, and can unfortunately become completely unattainable thanks to hackers or empty servers. Never mind, sometimes it’s just not meant to be. We still hate them, though.
That 1000G/ Platinum Feeling, Though
Every time you hear that noise of a trophy or achievement unlocking, it’s satisfying, but it pales in comparison to finally seeing your most recent conquest with that 100% next to it. Your trophy count and level have just received a nice increase, and you can tick another one off the list.
Seriously, though, very few feelings can compare to the feeling of finally seeing that last one pop, especially after countless hours of collectible searching, performing tricky tasks, completing high score challenges, and beating the game on its hardest difficulty. It may only be numbers on the screen or a virtual trophy, but damn it feels good.
You Always Have a Rival
Achievement and trophy collecting is great to do and provides us with a scale of our progress in a game. However, there’s always that one person on your friends list who is your rival. You’ve engaged in trophy/ achievement challenges before and you both went into a hunting frenzy. Now you low-key attempt to catch them off-guard and take the lead. It’s all just a matter of time.
Thanks to the Xbox One’s gamerscore leaderboard and the PS4’s trophy count and levels, you can always rest assured that comparing how you fair up against your friends and family members will be easy. Something which, while fun, only helps to fuel your competitive side that little bit more.
The Community Is Awesome
Whether you’ve got a rivalry with someone on your friends list or not, you’ve always got a bunch of people online who will be there to celebrate with your successes, and give you plenty of advice, tips, and tricks on how to beat that boss in Dark Souls III.
What’s more, with a number of sites set up for players to discuss them, you can almost always find someone who’s willing to help you get that achievement for co-op, or help boost you for that trophy for 20 online wins. The community is passionate and as long as you’re a friendly member and are happy to pass on the help, you’ll never be alone in your time of need.
