Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon: How to Get a Shiny Starter

How To Get a Shiny Starter in Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

Recommended Videos

Getting a Shiny Starter in Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon is one of the hardest Pokemon to get in the game. Unlike other shiny Pokemon that can be farmed using usual shiny farming methods, starter Pokemon cannot be found in the wild, and you only get the one at the start of the game when you pick your first Pokemon. So essentially, the only way to legally obtain one is to hope and pray that the Pokemon you receive at the start of the game is shiny… which is also extremely rare like other shinys.

Unfortunately, you can’t actually check if your starter is shiny until you progress all the way to the point where you pick your starter, and then give it a nickname. While choosing your nickname, if it’s shiny, you’ll be able to tell then.

If you’re dead set on getting a shiny starter no matter the time it takes, then restart your game once you see that your starter isn’t shiny. The quickest way is to do a soft reset (as opposed to just turning the game off) by pressing and holding L, R, and Start or Select. That will send you back to the opening screen where you can start a new game, progress far enough and check again… and again… and again… until you get the shiny Pokemon you want.

That does it for how to get a shiny starter in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon. Good luck out there shiny hunters… You have more willpower than us.
