ARK Survival Evolved: How to Get Black Pearls

HOW TO GET BLACK PEARLS IN ARK: SURVIVAL EVOLVED

Black Pearls are a resource in ARK: Survival Evolved that can be used to craft higher tier Tek armor, weapons, and buildings. They are essentially a mid-late game resource because they can only be harvested after killing underwater creatures that will require you to be a fairly high level to beat. These creatures are:

  • Trilobite
  • Deathworm
  • Eurypterid
  • Ammonite
  • Tusoteuthis
  • Alpha Mosasaurus

They can be found off the coast of each corner of “The Island” map.

The easiest (albeit, slowest) method of gaining Black Pearls is to kill and harvest from the scorpion-like Eurypterids. This can be achieved by simply diving down and killing them with a pickaxe, but you are best advised to tame an Ichthy or Manta. Apart from making the process faster and easier, the Ichthy and Mana do not suffer knockback and are immune to Torpor, which the Eurypterids inflict. The other way to hunt Eurypterid is to use the Grappling Hook and then use a fast water mount to drag it to the shore, where it can be harvested by a Therizinosaurus for extra pearls.

For a greater haul of Black Pearls, however, hunt Tusoteuthis and/or Alpha Mosasaurus. These creatures are tricky to take down but reward with massive amounts of Black Pearls (100 for the Alpha Tusoteuthis). Tame and use a Basilosaurus, which is immune to getting caught by the tentacles sting of the Tusoteuthis.

In rare instances, Black Pearls will also drop as loot when catching fish with a Fishing Rod.
