No Man’s Sky: How to Melee

How to Melee Attack – No Man’s Sky

Recommended Videos

No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration and discovery, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find yourself trading shots with some entities that would like to see you dead. Your Multi-tool can handle a lot of the damage dealing for you, with several mods that allow for it to use different types of blasts other than the standard mining beam. But sometimes you just want to take it back to the days before lasers and spaceships and melee the heck out of some charging dino-beast.

To melee in No Man’s Sky, you simply have to hit R1. Doing so will cause your character to attack with the butt of their Multi-tool in a swift motion. You should be warned though, this requires you to get very close to your target as it doesn’t have much range. If you’re looking for slightly more range, you can charge the target by sprinting (R3) and melee while running. It doesn’t add an extraordinary amount of distance, but it can increase your range by at least one pace.

Physical attacks are also a good way to mine easy-to-break substances, like Carbon-yielding plants. There’s no point in wasting your precious energy if you can just bash something until it breaks, right?
