Paper Mario: Color Splash Gets a Release Date

Couldn't be soon enough.

Today during Nintendo’s E3 2016 Treehouse live stream, the company announced the release date for Paper Mario: Color Splash. The game will come out exclusively for the Wii U later this year on October 7. Last March saw the game’s official announcement and reveal trailer, which you can watch below.

Color Splash takes follows a world in which Bowser is sucking all of the color out of the lands and its inhabitants, and Mario is in town to put inject life back into it. It seems the game will revolve around a wooden hammer that Mario uses to repaint parts of the world that have lost color, as well as restore characters back to health.

What’s most interesting about this new Paper Mario is easily the game’s art direction. The series has always utilized and combined the power of 2D and 3D, but Color Splash seems to be taking it to the next level with beautifully rendered 3D environments and some impressive shading. Not much else is known about the game, and we didn’t get any new gameplay out of the announcement, so I guess the rest is up to our imagination until we hear more.
