The former Head of Studio for Konami has confirmed that he will continue his relationship with MercuryStream after their work together on the Lords of Shadow series. The independent Spanish developer effectively revived the Castlevania franchise with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, which received strong reviews and eventually became the best-selling Castlevania title to date.

After increasingly mixed reviews for the game’s two follow-ups, Lords of Shadow—Mirror of Fate & Lords of Shadow 2, there were questions about what direction Cox and MercuryStream would take. While we still don’t know what MercuryStream is working on, Cox confirmed today via Twitter that he will continue to be involved with the studio on this unknown project:

He has also given the following statement about the collaboration:

“When I was approached by MercurySteam to get involved in their new project, I jumped at the chance. It’s been my great fortune and pleasure to work with this talented studio over many years. I’m extremely excited about this very ambitious work they’re undertaking. MercurySteam continue to push boundaries and their sheer creative spirit always astounds me. It’s great to be back with my old team mates!”

For their part, MecuryStream launched a teaser site coinciding with the announcement and further teased fans with a tweet mentioning the site’s countdown, which is currently at a little under a month from now:

What the site will reveal when that timer runs out is anyone’s guess.
