Cyberpunk 2077 was announced back in 2012 by CD Projekt RED. Details of the game were kept under wraps as the developer focused on the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The Witcher 3 has been out for a few months now and CD Projekt RED is now free to focus on Cyberpunk 2077. In a recent interview with MCV, Visual Effects artist Jose Teixeira revealed that the game will be the biggest game the studio has ever worked on. That’s pretty impressive considering how large The Witcher 3 is.
“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” said Teixeira. “Far, far bigger.”
“We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
Teixeira went on to say that working on a game like The Witcher 3 has helped the studio refine their development methods for Cyberpunk 2077.
“The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” he explained. “We really didn’t know what was going to happen.
“If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.
“I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go ‘I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better’.”
When asked when we might see Cyberpunk 2077, Teixeira teased: “The name of the game is Cyberpunk 2077, and we usually say the release date is 2077.”
