Secrets in Shadow of the Colossus PS4

Recommended Videos

Shadow of the Colossus is a relatively short game, and you can beat normal mode in about six or seven hours. However, there’s more for you to do within the game even after you’ve completed the story. The Shrine of Worship houses a really cool location that you can visit after beating the game a few times, and there are other Easter eggs for you to discover as well. Read on for a list of all the secrets available in this game.

You Can Challenge the Fallen Colossi Again

After defeating a Colossus, you can always return to its original location to find that its body has been overgrown with trees and greenery. If you’d like to re-experience the fight, all you have to do is approach its body and pray to trigger Reminiscence Mode for a rematch. You’ll be able to face it with your current health and stamina, and you get a cool grainy filter for the entirety of the battle as well.

Discover the Secret Garden

The Secret Garden is an Eden-like location that shows up only in the end credits, but you can access it early on in Shadow of the Colossus if you have enough stamina. After exiting the Shrine of Worship, go to the back of the building to find a mossy green wall you can climb. However, you’ll need a maxed out stamina bar to complete the climb, meaning you have to beat the game a few times before attempting this.

Trico’s Barrels

There’s a cool little Easter egg and reference to The Last Guardian in Shadow of the Colossus. From the Shrine of Worship, head directly southwest until you reach the wooded area in E5. In the woods, take the right fork and you’ll find an underground cave which houses a glowing barrel – an item that was used to feed Trico in The Last Guardian.

Hop On a Bird

There are tons of birds and seagulls flying around in Shadow of the Colossus, and if you time it right, you can jump and grab hold of one of them. As long as you have enough stamina to hang on, the birds can take you on a lovely tour around the Forbidden Lands.

Lizards Give You Stamina

Ever noticed those little lizards scuttling along the road or on the shrine towers? You can shoot their tails and pick them up to increase your stamina meter. Use your bow to aim at the tail when they’re stationary, then pick it up with R2.

Make Use of Agro

Everyone knows how to Agro-launch at this point, but there are a few other cool horse riding tricks you can pull off in Shadow of the Colossus. For instance, pressing R2 and pushing the left stick upwards will let you stand on its back. Pressing R2 and X while turning the left stick left or right will let you ride on Agro’s side. You can also pull off a quick turn by holding down on the left stick and tapping triangle twice.

Time Attack Rewards

After beating the game, you’ll unlock Time Attack mode, which is for unlocking even more in-game rewards. Defeating all of the Colossi in both normal and hard Time Attack modes will allow you to get items that reduce damage taken from Colossi, increase your strength, and let you detect lizards more easily. You can also obtain a weapon from Ico by completing the hard Time Attack mode.

The Gold Coins

The Shadow of the Colossus remake also adds a new collectible item in the form of gold coins scattered all over the world. There are a total of 79 coins, and if you can find them all, you’ll obtain the Sword of Dormin at the Shrine of Worship. The sword decreases your health regeneration but increases your damage output.
