A real shame.
NieR: Automata is finally available in the west, both on the PS4 and on PC. While the game itself offers a good 30 hours of story content (provided you go for all the main story endings, of course), there are still a few plot areas that might benefit from a bit of expansion. However, at a Q&A session at PAX East, director Yoko Taro stated that there was no DLC planned for the title.
According to Taro, NieR: Automata won’t be getting any content DLC as they’ve simply run out of funding and available manpower for the project. As such, fans shouldn’t expect large expansions that we’ve seen in games like The Witcher 3. He also added that the game won’t be getting a photo mode of any sort due to budget constraints as well.
It’s definitely a shame, considering that the world and history of Automata is so rich, and there are a few characters that fans would definitely love to know more about through additional content. Still, the fact that this game exists at all is a miracle in its own right. You can check out our review of the game here.
