Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was released on Tuesday, March 10th, but it seems the series was already a major commercial success for Sony before the launch of the long-awaited sequel.
Shawn Layden, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, told Fox Business in a recent interview as such. This makes it one of Sony’s most commercially successful franchises behind Grand Turismo, which many believe is approaching 80 million units sold. It’s not clear if this number includes the recently remastered The Nathan Drake Collection as well as Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
Gaming industry analyst, Michael Pachter, predicts the latest entry will sell between 7-10 million units in its lifetime. However, the analyst did state that it is hard to imagine an attach rate of 25%, despite the PS4 outselling Xbox One 2:1 worldwide.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is expected to be a chart topper for the PS4, and with the overwhelmingly positive reception from critics, it’s no wonder. Currently, it is averaging a 94% on Metacritic.
