6. Striker
The Striker Titan has had a tumultuous career in Destiny’s PvE (player vs. enemy) content. It was largely a PvP class when Destiny first launched but was much more useful when The Dark Below released thanks to its ability to dispatch swarms of Thrall and Hive that can overwhelm you in both Crota’s End and Will of Crota. It really found a nice niche as one of the best Destiny classes especially in the earlier parts of both the new raid and strike.
Although all classes have their uses, someone has to be last, and unfortunately in House of Wolves that would probably have to be the Titan Striker, despite it being higher in our last ranking. Prison of Elders on higher difficulties is just too hectic to get up close and personal. Sure, the Striker can be great when you get that perfect opportunity to wipe out a group of trash enemies, but afterwards in many cases you’ll be left wide out in the open for a boss or new swarm of enemies to quickly take you out. Its low speed doesn’t do it any favors either when trying to get to critical objectives quickly. All that being said, if you’re holed up in cover and swarm of enemies surprises you, no other Destiny class is better at taking care of that problem as quickly and swiftly as the Striker and its Fist of Havoc super.
5. Bladedancer
Bladedancer has a unique and varied skill set that gives it the edge over a Titan Striker when ranking the best Destiny classes. First, like the Striker, the Bladedancer is able to quickly take out groups of normal red health enemies while also being able to modify it to stay cloaked, giving it a better chance to survive. Also the Bladedancer is well suited to do some emergency cloaked revives when needed. Finally, a Hunter Bladedancer has the inherent speed needed to sprint around the map quickly and get to critical objectives before the timer runs out.
However, the reason why Bladedancer Hunters are number five on the list of best Destiny classes is because of its inability to deal with bosses and highly armored enemies as effectively as the other classes. Like any other class, it can equip powerful weapons and get the job done, but its abilities aren’t as helpful as some other classes in the Prison of Elders. Like the Titan Striker, Bladedancer certainly had its moment in the sun in The Dark Below, but will be taking more of a backseat this time around in House of Wolves.
4. Gunslinger
Gunslinger, like its fellow Hunter subclass the Bladedancer, have similar skill sets. What sets it above the Bladedancer in this list of best Destiny classes for House of Wolves PvE is its Golden Gun super. The Gunslinger can safely dispatch both powerful and weak enemies from a safe distance. This is unlike the Bladedancer and Striker that need to get up close and personal. Couple that ability with its speed for objectives and the Gunslinger is a worthy member of any Prison of Elders fireteam.
The only reason it’s not higher is because it faces some pretty stiff competition going forward from the other Destiny subclasses. The Prison of Elders can be chaotic and brutal on high difficulties, and the classes that can best minimize and make battles less dangerous get the edge.
3. Voidwalker
The Voidwalker has made a huge jump in Destiny House of Wolves compared to our last list of the best Destiny classes. The reason is because of the high number of grouped up enemies that are just begging to be Nova Bombed. Voidwalkers can do this at a safe distance and still do some damage to highly armored enemies and bosses.
The Voidwalker is even deadlier if you have the Bad Juju-Obsidian Mind combination which allows you to recover your super at a ridiculous rate. Keeping the high number of additional enemies at bay is crucial in Prison of Elders. Luckily, the Voidwalker is superbly designed to do just that while staying alive as well. Couple all of that with some great health recovery abilities and you have a class that has everything it needs to succeed in the new Destiny House of Wolves content.
2. Sunsinger
Our top two best Destiny classes for PvE in House of Wolves remain the same but trade spots this time around. Sunsinger will never not be helpful thanks to its fantastic multi faceted super ability, Radiance. Being able to self revive can not only rescue a fireteam that is all but dead, but can also be used to make rescue runs for teammates that have died in unfortunate spots. It’s much less stressful running out of cover into enemy fire knowing that you can revive yourself if you’re downed.
Let’s also not forget that the Sunsinger can also lob powerful AoE or sticky grenades like a madman while under the effect of Radiance to help clear out unwanted enemies. Plus, Scorch can give you a pretty powerful overshield when the going gets tough to help you move between cover. Sunsinger isn’t missing anything, it’s just the next subclass on this list can offer even more.
1. Defender
It gets freaking crazy during Prison of Elders. The Defender’s Ward of Dawn ability is just too useful to not have it at the top of this list of best Destiny classes for House of Wolves PvE. The famous Defender bubble can not only provide your team with a safe spot to hide, switch weapons, and use consumbles, but can enhance your team’s shields and weapons. Defenders can also run to a downed teammate and throw up a shield to safely revive them.
Defenders with the Helm of Saint-14 can create choke points, blinding enemies that come in from a side that you block off. You can also modify the shield to last longer or create orbs of light for your team. Besides Ward of Dawn, the Defender can use Force Barrier to give itself a powerful overshield to help it get an extra shot or two off on a boss with a rocket launcher before having to retreat. Defenders promote so much team synergy on both the offensive and defensive side of things that make it a shoe in for the best Destiny class in House of Wolves.
