Since its initial release on PlayStation 3, Pure Chess has garnered praise as one of the prettiest and most elegant iterations of the classic strategic board game. Last year, in a Nintendo Direct presentation, it was then announced that Pure Chess would be heading to the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS, complete with cross-platform multiplayer with each other and iOS and Android devices. Getting the feature just right is what resulted in the release taking quite some time, but the developers at VooFoo Studios have done it!
Pure Chess is essentially your traditional chess game (obviously), keeping and highlighting the game’s best attributes as a strategy game while making it just as accessible to new players as to veterans with new tutorials to ease in the rookies. Additionally, there is online play, a ranking system, and challenges for those willing to take on the game and everything it has to offer. When you become “Grandmaster” of Pure Chess, be sure to put it on your resume (not really).
Pure Chess will be hitting the Wii U and 3DS eShops on March 20th, 2014 for $7.99/€5.99. You can check out the trailer for the Nintendo releases below:
