The Fallout games have become well known for the vast open worlds they allow us to explore. Even the largest of open worlds are pretty dull if there’s no one to talk to but luckily the world of Fallout is inhabited by some of the most quirky and colorful characters you’re likely to meet in a post-apocalyptic world.

Fallout 4 was announced earlier this year and from what we saw at E3, it looks like this Fallout is going to be bigger and more ambitious than ever. A new feature in Fallout 4 will be the fact that your character will talk. Given how many NPC’s there are in your average Fallout game, recording all the dialogue is no small task, but Bethesda seems to have it covered.

Bethesda’s Game Director and Executive Producer Todd Howard said in an interview with The Telegraph that the two main voice actors for the male and female protagonist have recorded over 13,000 lines of dialogue over the past two years.

Howard also revealed how your character’s gender will change how certain conversations play out and how each actor had their own take on different lines.

“We were lucky to find two great voice actors,” said Howard. “It’s interesting because she may read things or act things differently than he does. So scenes play out differently depending on whether you are playing the game as male or female.”

Fallout 4 is due to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10th. Which gender will you be playing as?
