The Witcher 3 HD Mod
While The Witcher 3 is a beautiful game, there are some textures that could be made even better. This is where the Witcher 3 HD Rework Project comes in, which you can find on Nexus Mods.
It looks like the main texture focus is for the stones and rocks in the game, which are improved greatly in some areas of the world. There have also been changes to some of the trees, wood crates, and ceramic roof tiles. It is currently the most endorsed mod for the game on the site and was last updated on Dec. 31, 2015. You can check out a video of the improvements brought by the mod here.
Fast Travel Switch Up Witcher 3 Mod
While there are times you want to travel the lands on foot or with your trusty steed, there may be others where you just want to get to the next quest destination, or to a village to play Gwent. Fast Travel from Anywhere is a mod that makes a slight change to the fast traveling system in The Witcher 3.
While you will still only be able to fast travel to the signposts dotted about the map, you will be allowed to do so from anywhere on the map. This is especially useful if you are far into a Velen forest, or on the waters around Skellige. The mod author does warn players to not FT during quests, as you may break the game by doing so.
Show it All Witcher 3 Mod
All Quest Objectives on Map is another mod for The Witcher 3 that does a simple and specific job, but one that could be very useful depending on your preferences.
There are three different versions that you can download. The Lite version shows all active quests on the map, but doesn’t support custom icons. The Standard version supports custom quest icons, and lets you change the tracked quest from the map itself. On top of these features, the Full version makes merchants always appear on your map after you have found them.
The Enhancement System Witcher 3 Mod
The Enhance System for The Witcher 3 has only been available to download since Dec. 26, 2015, but it has quickly become one of the most popular mods for the game.
This mod brings a whole host of changes. For example, Geralt will be able to use weapons previously locked to NPCs, while there are also upgrades to each of the relic swords in the game. Armor, crossbows, and DLC equipment have all been enhanced. In the case of crossbows they are now upgradable, allowing you to deliver more damage with your arrow-firing beauty. The crafting system has also been tweaked to make a little more sense. For example, swords that are a dark color will need to be made with a Dark Steel Ingot. You can find the mod on Nexus Mods, and under the Posts tab there are more details about what the mod does.
Friendly HUD
The in-game HUD is always important in RPGs like The Witcher 3, and Friendly HUD gives you the option to show exactly what you want to see. It is possible to turn off the minimap, quest information, and character information, and hotkeys are set to let you turn them off and on whenever you want.
There is a lot more that the mod can do, though. Friendly HUD also gives players the option to show 3D quest markers inside the game, which can be useful if you are not using the minimap. Changes can also be made to the meditation system, which makes it happen in real time rather than on a menu.
Beautiful Lighting Mod
Added to the Nexus Mods site in Sept. 2015, Super Turbo Lighting Mod has become a popular mod that gives players “a fraudulent reproduction of the E3 2014 (trailer) lighting.”
Every major area in the game has seen changes, the view distance has been tweaked, and fog has been reduced. The description for the mod states that it has been created to work while playing in fullscreen rather than borderless or windowed mode. Certain mods like the Visual Enhanced Project Evolved have versions that coincide with this mod. You can check out the mod in action here.
Increased LODs
Commonly abbreviated to LODs, level of detail can make the game world look even more beautiful from a distance, although it can sometimes cause a slight decrease in Frames Per Second (FPS). There have been mods that make changes to LODs in games like Skyrim, and now the Increased LODs mod does the same for The Witcher 3.
The mod increases the level of detail and the draw distance in the game, with a very small hit to the in-game FPS. The author states that the mod also fixes a lot of the texture pop-in issues in the world, and as you can see in this video, it makes a huge difference to the game.
Enhanced Monster Trophies
Throughout Geralt’s adventure, you start to collect monster trophies from difficult enemies, which will give Geralt a slight bonus. Many of the trophies have similar types of boosts, ranging from increased damage against humans, to giving extra XP for killing a specific type of enemy. Enhanced Monster Trophies makes a needed change to a part of the game that does lack in variation somewhat.
The mod page details all the new bonuses that the trophies have. For example, the Drowner trophy will have a 7% critical hit chance, and a 10% critical hit damage bonus, while the Cockatrice gives your character 2x quicker toxicity regeneration alongside a 25% resistance to poison. The trophies will also still have an increased damage bonus against a certain enemy type.
AutoLoot
This mod does a very simple job, but one that will make your life a lot easier while playing through The Witcher 3. The mod is called AutoLoot, which will automatically loot killed enemies rather than you having to do it manually.
There are different filters that you can turn on or off. For instance, one of them makes it so that Geralt will not accidentally steal anything that is nearby in a populated area. The main filters let you set the mod to only loot certain items, so if you only want herbs, oils, and food items and not loot every single weapon, you are able to.
Gwent Deluxe
If you have played The Witcher 3, then you will have played the very popular Gwent minigame at some point. A mod called Gwent Deluxe makes a lot of tweaks to the card game, which aims to make all of the different decks more enjoyable to use.
Some of the NPC decks have been tweaked, and a lot of the cards have been edited to try and make them slightly more lore friendly. For example, Geralt has been downgraded from 15 to 14, but will now have a new ability called Melee Torch. There is also a version of the mod that makes sorceress cards like Philippa, Yen, and Sabrina more powerful.
