The Campaign
It’s been three years since the release of Halo 4 , 343i’s first stab at their very own Halo title. The events of that game had left fans wondering what was next. Following the comics after the fact and the Hunt the Truth campaign, players will finally be able to take control of Master Chief as he goes out to do what he does best, save the Galaxy.
Only this time things are a bit different. Not everyone still perceives Master Chief as that hero with an insane stroke of luck. The story will unfold with our favorite green clad, silent hero (that isn’t Link) saving the world as the mystery behind him is revealed while being hunted by an elite unit.
Fans may end up going face to face with a Master Chief who isn’t the hero they thought he was.
Two Protagonists
Being able to witness the hunt of Master Chief in Halo 5: Guardians is exciting in its own way. But, being able to do so first hand is on a whole other level of amazing. Players will take control of the Blue Team with Master Chief serving as the leader as they search for what the Guardians are and how they can stop them.Â
Players will also take control of Agent Locke and Fireteam Osiris with the sole mission of bringing Master Chief to justice for his crimes. Many feel that Master Chief needs to answer for his whereabouts and his reputation doesn’t seem to be enough to help him out of this. This is more than just a skin swap with the same types of missions though.
Each team has its own special set of skills and methods in Halo 5, and the mission structure this time around is more varied to provide something that is all the more engaging to long time fans. 343i has made sure to make each point of view meaningful. All that’s left is for you to pick a side.Â
Warzone
Warzone is the new multiplayer mode in Halo 5 that pits teams of 12 against one another on a huge map with some extra elements thrown in for good measure. The goal is to capture bases and kill the enemy players while working your way to 1000 points. Sounds easy, right? That’s until you realize you’re dealing with enemy minions and even a third party that takes no sides.
Aliens from the campaign, as well as bosses for this mode, will appear on the map to kill anything they see. The bosses are worth a lot of points so teams will have to make the decision of going all in and taking them down, or using them as bait for the enemy team. It adds a new level of strategy and intrigue.
It takes the elements of the multiplayer that helped pushed the series to the forefront and builds on them to make something even bigger. Certainly something to be excited for.Â
New and Improved Forge Mode
For players with a bit of a creative edge Forge mode is returning and it’s better than ever. First is the improved control scheme making the task of creating new, interesting battle locations much easier. Players will quickly be able to build these environments using one of the many base levels provided.
There are over 1600 objects that can be used ranging from environmental structures to weapons. Each of these can be placed wherever, and you will have much finer control over how players can interact with them. Making this more appealing is the fact that the 343i intends to update the mode regularly with player feedback. Adding new items and features is the plan, and that’s something Forge lovers can definitely get behind in Halo 5.Â
Halo’s Got the Moves
One thing that’s been all the craze in recent shooters is mobility. New ways to get around in environments that now promote vertical gameplay is a focus that has helped to shake up the genre. For too many years players just ran through corridors and hid behind cover.
Now in Halo 5: Guardians, players will be able to dash, charge, glide, stomp, and use a bevy of other mobility options to make them a death dealing machine. Fast, fluid movement that enables players to utilize environments is just what the doctor ordered to help bring Halo to the top of the first person shooter heap once again.
