Until Dawn, PSVR, cinematic mode

Until Dawn throws many situations that could lead to the death of your characters in this choose your own adventure. It’s a fantastic storytelling game that will really have players on the edge of their seats as they figure out what choice they’ll make. Endings will change based upon these choices, so if you’re looking for the “Best” ending where everyone survives, you’re going to want to make specific choices in certain episodes and be quick with the QTE prompts.

Best is truly subjective, though. Because, personally, I would have preferred all the characters to meet their demise, to be honest. Anyway, there will obviously be spoilers ahead! So proceed with caution.

How to Keep Ashley Alive

Until Dawn, IP, new, 2015

In Episode 9, Ashley will hear a weird noise away from the group. Don’t investigate it and just catch up to the group. If you do investigate it, just keep walking right on through and don’t open the thumping latch. This one might seem obvious, since the thump sounds like a crazed creature, but there’s always that, “What if?”

How to Keep Chris Alive

Until Dawn, IP, new, 2015

In Episode 6, when Chris and Ashley are stuck in a SAW-like situation, don’t point your gun at Ashley, just opt to shoot yourself in the head. This affects the story later on, so you’re going to want to make sure not to make her made here.

Then, in Episode 8, while Chris is running from the Wendigo threat with a shotgun, shoot them all off successfully and Ashley will save his life by letting him back in the lodge. If you pointed the gun at her, naturally, she would leave your butt to die out there.

How to Keep Emily Alive

In Episode 8, you just need to escape and complete all the QTEs on time. Don’t let Mike shoot her in the face when the time comes for that, either. Even though this will be really hard to do, I know.

How to Keep Jessica Alive

Jessica-Until-Dawn

In Episode 4, when Jessica is dragged away, make sure Mike is rushing to save her. Successfully complete all his QTEs and choose the riskier paths in order to ensure she survives the elevator fall. This is of course harder, but with risk comes rewards!

In Episode 10, whenever there is a chance to hide from the Wendigo, choose it and complete the QTEs to have Jessica survive the entire game. Ugh.

How to Keep Josh Alive

Until Dawn™_20150824054911

Saving Josh is the toughest, as you need to find all The Twins clues or else he won’t recognize his sister’s tattoo on the Wendigo in time and it will succeed in crushing his skull. Kind of silly? Yeah, but it’s an incentive to find those collectibles, I guess.

Find them (there’s a very important and completely  missable one in that very place when you wade through the water as Sam and Mike) first and he’ll be able to survive the night. Hopefully you read this before already playing.

How to Keep Matt Alive

In Episode 6, don’t attack the animals as you maneuver through them with Emily on the cliff. Doing this will mean they get mad and ram you off. It’s what you deserve, honestly.

Also, once you’re both in a troubled spot on the radio tower, choose to “Jump to Safety” instead of helping Emily. If you do choose to “Help Emily,” make sure you have the flare gun, first. Otherwise, leave her. It’s fine, she’ll be okay.

How to Keep Mike Alive

mike-until-dawn

Mike (like Sam) won’t be able to die until Episode 10. Even though the danger he goes through seems really intense. When you have the option, as Sam, to either “Hit the Light” or “Save Mike,” choose to save Mike and then hide until everyone is out of the lodge before making a run for the light. Mike will make it out only then. Don’t worry, you’re not sacrificing Sam by doing this.

How to Keep Sam Alive

Sam-Until-Dawn

Sam (like Mike) won’t be able to die until Episode 10. You just need to successfully hide from the Wendigos and not miss a QTE. Get your fingers ready! Once you’ve helped everyone escape the house (including Mike), make your way out. All done!

Congratulations! All of the characters have officially survived. Hopefully you saw this guide before you started playing, since Josh’s can be quite the pain in the butt to get otherwise. A whole playthrough will be needed if you mess up, unfortunately. Happy trophy hunting!
