In a Zelda first, 2017’s Breath of the Wild gave Link a home of his own. The protagonist’s place to rest and recuperate became a favorite with fans, who have been overjoyed to hear that a home is also acquirable in Tears of the Kingdom. Here’s how to get a house in Zelda: TOTK.

How To Obtain a New House in Tears of the Kingdom

There are two basic steps to getting a new house for Link in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We’ve detailed in below, letting you know precisely how to get a house for Link in TOTK.

Step One

The first step is to progress through the ‘Mattison’s Independence’ side quest, which allows players to buy a housing package from NPC Rhondson for 1,500 Rupees. To do this, follow the exact instructions below:

  1. Travel to Tarrey Town to speak to Hudson. This is located by Akkala Highlands. Hudsonwill explain that he’s worried for Mattison, his daughter. He will ask Link to spend time with her, beginning the relevant side quest.
  2. Find Mattison. She’ll be in her bedroom on the second floor of Hudson’s house.
  3. This begins a short tour of the town, with players needing to tell two NPCs what the Gerudo word for ‘Grandma’ is. The correct answer is ‘vaba’.
  4. Mattison will then take players to visit Hudson at work, but is stopped by a guard whose eyes players have to cover. This can be done with the small plank of wood nearby. Once this is complete, Mattison who can bypass the guard.
  5. Now players must meet Hudson at his workplace. He’s off to the west, by the Hot Air Balloon and opposite the Tram. He will ask for 10 Sundelions to paint the balloon. These can be acquired from the worksite nearby – or just use the ones in your inventory if you have enough. This completes the side quest and earns players two silver rupees, the equivalent of 200 rupees.
  6. Now, return to Rhondson. He’ll offer a housing package to Link at a cost of 1,500 Rupees.
  7. Purchase the house!

Step Two

The second step is to actually construct the house. This involves the following:

  1. Meet the NPC spawned by the plot of land you’ve just purchased. This is next to Rasitakiwak Shrine, by Kaepora Pass.
  2. Speak to the NPC and begin the building process.
  3. Attach two rooms together using the Ultrahand ability.
  4. Go back and speak to the NPC again. They’ll perform an inspection of the rooms you’ve just attached. Rhondson will then investigate your construction to ensure it’s up to scratch.
  5. After this second inspection, players will be given a plethora of options to customize their home. These include adding a paddock for your horse, a kitchen to cook recipes and much, much more.
  6. Build your dream house!

It gives the protagonist a humble abode to enjoy and lets players flex their creative muscles in the 2023 title.
