While Gamescom 2021 has now officially wrapped, Polish developer Bloober Team still managed to smuggle in a brand new PS5 launch trailer late last night to commemorate the release of their upcoming psychological horror game, The Medium.
Feast your eyes on the freshly cut Gamescom footage of The Medium running on PS5 down below:
For those unaware, The Medium is a Silent Hill-esque atmospheric horror experience that even boasts the aforementioned Konami series’ original composer, Akira Yamaoka, on music production duties.
While the title launched on Xbox and PC earlier this year, the game is all set to launch next week on PS5 on September 3. The PS5 version will feature some unique and immersive DualSense support.
Our very own Chris Jecks reviewed The Medium on Xbox Series X and was very enamoured with the game, ultimately awarding it a 4/5, concluding:
The Medium isn’t perfect. Bloober Team’s most ambitious ideas aren’t realized to their full potential, but it’s a step in an exciting new direction. The pacing stumbles in the middle, but that’s where the enticing narrative picks up the slack to drive you through. The dual-reality mechanic goes just about far enough to keep its slowest gameplay moments interesting, and paired with a fantastic narrative and exceptionally eerie atmosphere, it’s an easy recommendation for fans of Bloober Team’s work in the past and the horror genre in general.
For more information on The Medium, here’s a rundown courtesy of the game’s official press release:
The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game that features innovative dual-reality gameplay. Players assume the role of Marianne, a medium gifted with several psychic abilities, and explore the real and spirit world both alternatively and simultaneously to uncover a dark mystery masked by disturbing secrets, sinister spirits, and devious puzzles only a medium can solve.
Players can head to the PlayStation Store to pre-order the game at the price of $49.99/€49,99/£41.74 with a 10% off discount for PS Plus members before launch. Players who pre-order the game will receive the digital Original Soundtrack (by Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski) and The Art of The Medium (digital artbook).
Bloober Team and Black Screen Records will also publish The Medium Original Soundtrack on vinyl and CD, with a release expected in October. Pre-orders are available now for the price of 34,00 €.
The Medium is scheduled to release on PS5 on September 3, 2021.
