CD Projekt Red’s standalone single player game for Gwent, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, is now available for purchase on Steam. The game was originally exclusive to Gog.com on PC, but clearly CD Projekt wants to bring it to a wider audience. You can follow the link here to the game’s Steam page, and check out an accolades trailer also released today down below.
Thronebreaker tells the story of Meve, Queen of Lyria and Rivia, who’s deposed from here throne by traitors working with the Nilfgaard Empire. Meve has to bring together a ragtag band of allies to take back her kingdoms from the invading forces of Nilfgaard.
Despite being a byproduct of Gwent, Thronebreaker is a full-fledged 30-hour RPG in its own right. You’ll move Meve around a series of maps, exploring for resources, interacting with NPCs, and taking on a handful of quests. The story is broken up by battles that play out in a Gwent style, and consistently introduce unique spins or mechanics. Here are the game’s key features from its Steam page,
- Experience an all-new 30-hour Witcher world tale with 20 possible world end-states.
- Embark on a grand adventure full of thought-provoking quests.
- Influence the state of the world around you by making difficult choices and face their consequences.
- Meet a cast of rich, multidimensional characters — some of them will join you on your quest, others you’ll have to face on the battlefield.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is currently available on PC via Steam or Gog.com. A console version of the game will launch on Dec. 4 for PS4 and Xbox One.
