The Assassin’s Creed series will take a break in 2019, much like it did in 2016, Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, revealed at Gamescom 2018.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is due to release later this year, and it will be supported well into 2019, ensuring fans have content to enjoy in the lead up to the next new release.
“It’s just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one,” said Guillemot when asked about the reason for the break. Essentially, 2017’s Origins and Odyssey were being worked on at the same time, allowing them to be release in subsequent years.
He also confirmed that the focus will be on Odyssey in 2019, rather than a spin-off or remaster, saying, “What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Assassin’s Creed Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually.”
Finally, Guillemot is happy with how Origins and the changes to the series have been received. “The community has been responding very well to it and when I see what we are bringing with Odyssey I know that the community that got back in with Origins will be amazed,” he said.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 5.
