If you find yourself generally having a tough time in action games, worry not — Square Enix has announced that NieR: Automata will feature an “Auto Mode” that will allow even the most novice of players to complete the game (via Siliconera). Activating this mode will replace the player controls with an AI that will attack and evade, providing support to players who aren’t quite as as well-adjusted to heavy battles.
“Auto Mode” is only available as an easy difficulty setting, but it can be switched on and off throughout the game for those players who might only need a brief respite from the intensity. It can also be customized to only perform certain attacks, or to strictly evade attacks, and everything within the scenario stays consistent regardless of difficulty.
NieR: Automata is the sequel to the 2010 title NiER and follows mankind as they are forced to flee Earth and take refuge on the Moon after foreign invaders known as “Machine Lifeforms” appear. According to Square Enix, the title offers “a fresh blend of action and RPG gameplay styles,” and “is currently being developed in collaboration with PlatinumGames, the studio known for its groundbreaking advancements in the action genre.” It is set for release in Japan on Feb. 23, 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and PC. It will release in the west sometime in 2017.
