In a piece published by Variety on Feb. 11, it was revealed that Jack Black will voice the iconic robot companion CL4P-TR4P – otherwise known as Claptrap – in Lionsgate’s upcoming Borderlands film adaptation.

“I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth,” Eli Roth, the film’s director, said. “Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen.”

Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, echoed this sentiment.

“We couldn’t have been more in sync with our filmmakers and casting executives as we approached this role,” Kahane said. “Everyone who’s ever played the game knows Jack is perfect for this part. We’re thrilled he will add his endless comic energy and voice to our film — he’ll bring so much to the movie.”

Jack Black has a storied history of voicing for and performing in comedy films, with films like “Kung Fu Panda” and the recent entries in the “Jumanji” franchise. Likewise, he has experience voicing characters in video games, having voiced the main character in Double Fine’s Brutal Legend.

He also marks the latest addition to the Borderlands film’s star-studded cast. Earlier this week, Jamie Lee Curtis was confirmed to be playing the role of Tannis, while Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett have both been confirmed to be tied to the production as key characters as well.

The film does not currently have a firm release date.
