Take back Medivh's Tower from the Legion!

World of Warcraft: Legion Return to Karazhan

With the release of World of Warcraft: Legion’s new 7.1 patch, an old, fan-favorite dungeon has made a comeback. The former 10-man Burning Crusade dungeon, Karazhan, has returned and gotten a hefty makeover. Karazhan is now a 5-man mythic-level dungeon which rewards players with powerful loot acquired from many familiar and a few brand new bosses. However, you cannot simply walk into the former Guardian of Tirisfal’s home. Instead, you’ll have to attune for it, which will require quite a few quests and some help from other players. So head on over to Khadgar in Dalaran and we’ll guide you along your attunement to Medivh’s Tower.

Mythic Dungeons

As we said before, the quest line begins with a quest received when you speak with Khadgar in Dalaran. The Karazhan attunement quest line can be broken down into two phases: the Mythic Dungeon phase and the Securing Deadwind Pass phase. As you might have guessed, the first phase will require you to form a group and run through various mythic dungeons. It begins with the first quest of the chain, Edict of the God-King, which will have you enter the mythic Halls of Valor and defeating the second to last boss, God-King Skovald.

After beating Skovald, you will be granted a new quest named Unwanted Evidence, which has you returning to Khadgar with the Fel Crystal Fragment you received from Skovald. Upon returning the fragment to Khadgar, he’ll give you a new quest, Uncovering Orders, where you’ll be tasked with acquiring Fel Crystal Fragments from bosses in three more mythic dungeons: Blackrook Hold, Violet Hold and Vault of the Wardens. In the case of Blackrook Hold and Vault of the Wardens, the fragments drop off the final bosses of each dungeon. Violet Hold seems to be a bit different however, as we received our fragments off the first boss. It isn’t clear if this was intended or not, as some players have reported a similar drop patterns, while others claim they got the fragment from the final boss. Regardless, with all three crystals in hand, return once again to Khadgar in Dalaran and give them to him.

The next quest, Aura of Uncertainty, simply requires you to speak with the Archmage and activate a chat event with him. After a quickly freaking out about the Legion’s invasion of Karazhan, Khadgar will give players the final quest in phase one, Return to Karazhan, as well as a convenient portal there as well.

In case you may be curious, these quests can be completed inside mythic+ versions of each dungeon, so if you have a keystone then feel free to burn it. Continue to the next page for phase 2 of the attunement for Karazhan.

Securing Deadwind Pass

After completing phase one of the quests and taking the portal to Karazhan, you find the entrance to the tower in Deadwind Pass has been overrun with now-level 110 demons from the Legion. In front of you stands Khadgar and more mages from the Kirin Tor who have simple quests ready for you (because of course they do). All of the quests in phase two can be completed solo and will just have you run around this small area of Deadwind Pass performing regular feats, such as slaying demons or turning off horrible, world-ending ley line stones.

There are six quests to be completed, but with a little help from your flying mount, you should be able to knock them all out very quickly. You can also pickup the optional Waterlogged Tome quest in the underground area near the Western Ley Line Stone for an awesome, Khadgar-filled cinematic after being returned to Dalaran. With all six quests down, you will be free to enter Karazhan and defeat the evil that has taken hold of it. Just be sure to grab the few quests from Khadgar for your trek inside, as they have some pretty sweet rewards.

Entering Karazhan

Because the old version of the Karazhan raid is still available, there is now a new entrance for the revamped Legion Karazhan, and it can be a little tricky to find. When facing Karazhan, you’ll want to fly up and to the right to the side of the tower. The entrance is across a bridge that juts into the side of the dungeon and sits behind an interactable fence. This is actually right next to a spot you had to place a ward just previously in the attunement quest chain.

With this you are all set to form a party of powerful heroes and rest control of Karazhan away from the Legion. And totally score some loot along the way.
